Kantha embroidery

The traditional folk art is famous as Kantha which means 'Patched cloth'. The original Kantha is double faced where the design appeared identical on either sides of the fabric. The great length of stitch is broken into tiny tacking's which gives almost a dotted appearance on either sides of the quilt like "Do rukha". I have coveted a kantha jacket since I saw one made from a bedspread at my first Design Outside the Lines (DOL) retreat with Diane Ericson and guest tutor Carol Lee Shanks back in 2014.
