Initially, it was set with stones hired for the coronation and then reset with pastes so it could be displayed in the jewel house. In 1911 for the coronation of George V, the crown was permanently set with 444 semi-precious gems. The crown dates from the coronation of Charles II. Royal Collection Trust.
