Fire pit under 30$. 16 cinder blocks (16x8x6) and 8 cinder block toppers. I used nail glue to hold the blocks together and filled with lava rock to create a base. Fill the blocks with sand or rock to absorb the heat.

But, when you start to research how best to go about it, the downsides, and what kind of sand to use, things start to get a little more complicated. So, those thinking outside the (sand)box may consider pea gravel instead of sand. But this brings up the question – can you use pea gravel for sandbox?

I re-purposed our fire pit we won't be using this summer into a sand & water table for my son. I measured the inside dimensions and the best bins that worked for my measurements were the Sterlite brand under the bed bins. I set them on top of two cinder blocks to get them to the height I wanted and to support all that weight. Then I just clipped them together with a few large bulldog clips to keep them together in the middle. *Don't forget to add cinnamon to the sand to keep the bugs…
