In an activity, the teacher outlines the rules for “Just Right Books” to help students learn to choose appropriate books. The focus is picking a book the student is interested in, that they can read themselves and will help them learn. This helped me understand that a major motivation for students to read is having time to independently read books they chose, and well-chosen books about areas of interest for the student develop interest in reading (CTW p. 15, 48).
