They are such a fantastic free resource that have the most amazing garden use, that anyone can utilise at home. Fallen leaves can be collected this time of the year and put into bags, compost heaps, leaf cages or even just left in a pile. These collected leaves will break down due to fungal decomposition and turn into leaf mould, or garden gold as I like to call it. Although in the video I mention you can add it to your compost, make sure it’s chopped nice and small as leaves can take longer to break down than other organic matter. Leaf mould usually takes anywhere from 12-18 months to break down, but you can use partially decomposed leaves if that is too long.
