Avatarify: AI Face Animato‪r or simply Avatarify is a free multimedia mobile app that lets you record yourself with a different face. Developed by Avatarify, Inc., this augmented reality app uses AI photorealistic avatars so you can record funny or cool video clips of other people’s faces copying your facial expressions. Unlike most other similar apps, this one allows you to upload an image of your choice that will mirror your face. 

Advanced facial motion tracking

There are numerous types of apps that make use of augmented reality (AR) technology. Some allow virtual objects to be seen in real-world locations, like in Pokémon GO. Some, like Snapchat, let you apply AR animated lenses and filters to your photos. Others lets you swap faces with other images, like in Reface. There are different applications to this technology but one of the most popular is the ability to control an image via your facial expressions. 

This function is what you can enjoy in Avatarify. With its facial motion-tracking technology, it can accurately copy your expressions and control the selected avatar or image to mirror you. The short clips you record can then be sent or shared online. You can choose from either the app’s catalog of preset avatars—which includes celebrity photos, cartoons, live-action fictional characters, and even animals—or your own photo gallery that has your friends and family’s likeness.

After recording, you can upload directly to TikTok, Instagram, or Facebook, or simply save it on your device. The app is pretty easy to use and its facial recognition AI is highly advanced—quickly tracking even the movements of your eyes and not letting the background skew when you move your head a bit. However, it can’t track your teeth or tongue unlike in some similar apps. Plus, you need to stay in the face outline. 

Has some limits

All in all, Avatarify: AI Face Animato‪r is a fun little AR app that offers quick and easy facial recognition. Not only does it let you use images on your gallery, but it can also accurately follow your expressions and slight head movements. It doesn’t support inner mouth tracking, however, and you can’t freely move your head to make more dynamic videos. Nevertheless, it competes with some of the best AR apps around.
