I'm an Ex-Astrophysicist and AI / ML engineer at Cellzome, where I develop and apply new AI, machine learning and statistical methods for epitope engineering problems for infectious diseases. Previously I was postdoctoral researcher at the Center for Astrophysics in Cambridge, MA and at the Max Planck Institute for Nuclear Physics in Heidelberg, where I also did my PhD.
In my previous life as astrophysicist I developed new AI, machine learning and statistical methods as well as scientific open source software for the analysis of astronomical low counts data. I applied those methods to better understand the Galactic X-Ray and Gamma-Ray source populations.
I was also interested in developing new methods and open data formats to combine data from multiple instruments, such as the Cherenkov Telescope Array Observatory (CTAO), H.E.S.S., HAWC and Fermi-LAT but also X-ray observatories such as Chandra. By advocating openness I hoped to facilitate collaboration between astronomical observatories for better, more open and reproducible science.
I was also the lead developer of the open source software package Gammapy, sub-package maintainer of Astropy and a member of the CHASC astro-statistics collaboration. I was also editor for the Astronomy and Astrophysics track of the Journal of Open Source Software JOSS.
