Project Cars 3 DEALS

  • Steam
    $60 VIEW

In this Project Cars 3 review, you will discover an evolution of a game that aims at the masses while forgetting its roots. This choice made by Slightly Mad Studios, while remaining quite funny, will make fans of the saga turn up their noses. Goodbye to fuel consumption, goodbye to the various strategies related to Pit Stops, and also goodbye to tire wear and tire temperatures. In short, a whole new game is on the horizon. A fun title suitable for everyone, but at what price? Here is my Project Cars 3 review on PC.

A NEW CAMPAIGN

In this new chapter, you will face multiple challenges with different cars and categories. The evolution of one’s career is closely linked to your cars. As it is quite obvious to guess, you will start with basic level cars and then move up in the category where you can access new and better performing ones. In order to progress in the various categories, it will simply be necessary to gain experience points.

In order to obtain these points, it will be fundamental to compete in several mini-championships generally consisting of races that have two or three laps. In addition, the game will give you the opportunity to take part in special events in order to collect extra points and money. The cars if well divided into power by category are extremely and very simply editable.

In this way, even a ‘road’ car could soon become a racing car that does not fear comparisons with much more noble cars. By doing so, even with a simple Honda Civic Type R, it is possible to complete your career by competing from the first to the last category. In this way you lose a little of that desire to try other cars. By doing this, tuning proves to be the real focus of this campaign.

NO POINT IN CHANGING CARS

Although there are several elements that can entertain the player, the monotony and the feeling that the only difference in each car is the bodywork, soon diminishes the desire to constantly change your car and improving its performance on the track.

In addition to the career, daily, weekly, and monthly events, there are also personalized challenges. This all received a further simplification compared to the previous versions of the title. Obviously you will also find a multiplayer sector that offers the possibility of competing on the track against other players.

This also allows you to climb the world rankings by trying to improve the times on the track. As in Gran Turismo, there are two types of ratings assigned to the driver. The first linked to your sportsmanship on the track and the second linked to the driving style. The title as a whole really offers an infinity of hours and modes.

UNNECESSARY CHANGES

In this new chapter, the game welcomes you by putting you immediately behind the wheel. When I took part in this initial race, I instantly noticed the differences from previous chapters in the saga. Project Cars 3 says goodbye to a thoughtful and measured driving experience, giving space to skidding corners and braking at the limit.

In the previous chapters it was necessary to set a careful and measured driving model. However, in this new version it is not a problem to forget about a curve on the third lap of the track. Even during the last lap it will be possible to recover some positions and probably win the race by giving gas even where it would have been prohibitive to do so. The new driving system also offers the possibility for newcomers to the genre to enjoy every lap of the track. By doing so, you can easily (now more than ever) complete the title. I also tried playing the title with a steering wheel that, despite everything, gave me some pleasant sensations.

Project Cars 3 transformed its side strictly devoted to simulation into an arcade game easily understood and suitable for a wider audience. Fun is guaranteed, even if the developers have perhaps made too many compromises. Undoubtedly, the dynamic weather also remains amusing, adding ‘a little spice’ to the races.

Even in this case, however, Slightly Mad Studios could have done better. Time really changes too suddenly, almost unnaturally. As far as artificial intelligence is concerned, it seems to have taken a big step back. Overly aggressive opponents will often come at you unnecessarily and possibly ruining the driving experience.

DISAPPOINTING TECHNICAL QUALITY

Slightly Mad Studios made the models of the cars really well, but the same cannot be said of the cockpits. Even when changing cars, you never get the feeling that you took advantage of the view inside the passenger compartment. Unfortunately, the same is also seen in the light effects and in the effects dictated by the weather. A direct confrontation with Project Cars 2 would make this last chapter come out with broken bones, especially when referring to the technical side of the titles.

My PC test really left me with an unpleasant taste in my mouth. On the technical side, despite the high frame rate, almost nothing else remains positive for the eyes. The choice to switch to a less simulated version can be seen as good and bad depending on your racing style, but the great shortcomings in technical terms are really unobjectionable.

Do you want to try Bandai Namco Entertainment and Slightly Mad Studios’ Project Cars 3? What do you think of my Project Cars 3 review on PC? Please leave your thoughts in the comments below. The Review

Project Cars 3

6 Score

Project Cars 3 is not able to maintain the glories of the previous chapters in technical terms, it is much more arcade and despite the large number of modes it is not completely convincing. However, it remains a fun racing game.

PROS

  • A more accessible game
  • Different but fun

CONS

  • A too distorted saga
  • A mediocre technical sector
  • Artificial intelligence to forget

Review Breakdown

  • 6 0
