An effort in Orrington, Maine, to recall Selectmen Keith Bowden and Michael Curtis was initiated in January 2019. Recall organizers announced on February 25, 2019, that the effort to recall Bowden and Curtis had been dropped. The change came after the board voted unanimously to hire Joan Gibson as town manager.[1]
On February 5, 2019, Bowden stepped down from his position as board chairman. He remained on the board.[2]
A second recall effort was launched in May 2019 targeting Selectmen Charles Green, Christopher Robison, and Allan Snell. Petitioners began gathering signatures, but they did not succeed in moving the recall forward.[3]
Recall supporters
Bangor Daily News reported that the recall effort began after the resignation of the interim Town Manager Andrew Fish on January 29, 2019. Organizers also disagreed with the opposition shown by Bowden and Curtis to a proposed $3.5 million public safety building. That building was rejected by voters in December 2018.[2]
The recall effort against Green, Robison, and Snell began in response to the firing of Town Manager Joan Gibson, who took over as manager on March 11, 2019. Bowden and Curtis voted against firing Gibson.[3]
