It's been lying on the bed for two weeks now, and I finally got around to taking a picture, even though it's still dark and snowing outside...
The girls stopped in from school on a short break so they helped to hold up the quilt...
The quilt top is almost 3 meters by 3 meters in size, made up of scraps of fabric, including the muslin. 2136 triangles, if I counted correctly. Phew!
I had this puppy machine quilted, the first time I've done that. I'm glad I did!
Now our bed finally has a quilt of its own and it's large enough for us to get under without having to fight for a corner...lol!
..but it still hasn't made a dent in my scrap stash......
so on to more finishes!

half way there!
It's the half-way point for this quilt top. 18 blocks made, 18 to go. Thought it time to have a look and see what it would look like...
It's darker than I thought it would be now that I've thrown some blocks on the floor - so I made make some lighter blocks to add in the mix.
Oh, and don't pay any mind to my blue sock and black sock. The tootsies are warm, and on this stormy and wet day - that's all that counts!

still here....
Gosh, has it been that long?

No, I didn't go anywhere, I'm just in a groove right now, full-speed ahead sewing, making blocks for my triangle quilt, and knotting up the baby-rib quilt at night and finally catching up on those podcasts that are still from 2007!
Have you ever had that? Just got to work on something, you're in total rhythm, feeling the project, got it in your fingers, and don't want to stop? I got it now.

finishes for a friend
Hi Ho!
It's a windy but sunny Saturday here in Holland. Actually, the perfect kind of weather to hang out quilts and blankets to air.
After spending the morning doing some household chores and re-potting some needy plants in the kitchen, I've finally a moment to post some projects I've completed for my friend Mieke in time for her birthday next week.

As I had mentioned before, I received several boxes full of fabric and UFO's and what-not from Mieke and dug around to see what I could find. This was one of the first things I fished out of the boxes and decided to completed it for her. I believe it was intended for her grand-daughter, so now that it's done perhaps they can read books and snuggle under it together.

This one was from a kit we each bought together at the European Quilt Championships in Waalre a few years back. I had already completed the top, and it was waiting in the closet for me to complete. Mieke's kit was still intact, so to save time, I used my top, bought the backing and finished it for her. I can always make it again using her kit. I had already chosen backing, binding and batting for mine, so one of these days I'll get started on that as the baby rib fabric is wonderfully soft and makes for a great winter quilt.

Now that those projects are done I'll continue with the triangles quilt and try to get a start on the Houses of Hawk Run Hollow. I've been running around taking care of things and quite frankly have been too tired to settle down and sort threads and such and get started. Perhaps tomorrow. I need to figure out how to prepare the Au Ver a Soie threads to loop them around a hole in the proper lengths. Anyone have an idea? Any advice or tips are very appreciated!
Ok. Time's up at the computer, and off I go!
Take care and see you soon!

productive monday...
Happy Monday!
Not much to report: except that I finished machine quilting the baby quilt for Mieke, took a break from that after an unsucessfull search for a proper/matching binding fabric, and decided to work some more on the triangle quilt, as you can see in the quick snap taken above.
Now DH is BBQ-ing outside and the smoke is coming up and in through my sewing room window....and I'm being "smoked" out of my room!....
Hmmm, guess it's time to finish up, close the window and move downstairs to do some work on a sampler?
Hope your Monday was less complicated! lol!!

it's all in the pinning....
Made some more half-square triangles. While doing that I decided to make large square units of 5 blocks down and 5 across since it may be easier to put the top together that way instead of working with very long strips of blocks.
This quilt is planned to be 240 cm by 240 cm (or a bit longer) so that it will hang over the bed. 900 of those blocks to make, so steady as she goes! Good thing about it though, the stash will be finally used. Since Mieke's charms are primarily rose and flower fabrics, I'll be adding plaids and other charms from my own stash. That should give me some more room in my closet!

Work has to proceed slowly and accurately to make sure the points don't get "eaten" up in the seams. It's fun and quick to work with the machine, but I still think I have more control when working by hand. The cardinal rule in this project? It's all in the pinning!
Going to stop here for today and do some things around the house as we have a big weekend coming up.
Wishing you a good weekend!

triangles quilt
The phone rang all day, and I spent half the morning chatting with my friend on Skype (she lives in France), but still managed to get something done.
I dove into the stash my friend Mieke gave me and found lots and lots of charms packs!
I have a bunch of my own that have been lying about, so what to do with them?
This is what I came up with.

A simple quilt made up of half-square triangle blocks. Easy, quick to do on the machine, and there's (hopefully) enough muslin to complete the project. Since I chat with my friend in Paris a lot, and the computer is in my sewing room, I can talk to her and sew these little blocks at the same time. Sounds good, right?
This was a quick post, and it's time to walk the dog!
Ciao!
