Dr. Bin Hu joins the Department of Engineering Technology at the University of Houston as an Assistant Professor in 2022. Before that, he was an Assistant Professor in the Department of Engineering Technology at Old Dominion University, Norfolk, Virginia. He received his Ph.D. degree from the Department of Electrical Engineering at the University of Notre Dame in 2016, and M.S. in Control Science and Engineering from Zhejiang University in 2010.

Dr. Bin Hu’s research interests lie in areas of learning based control, optimization, machine learning, and their applications in cybersecurity, robotics, human-machine automation, IoT and vehicular networked systems.

Jan 27 2025 :tada: Our paper Distributed Perception Aware Safe Leader Follower System via Control Barrier Methods has been accepted for presentation at the 2025 IEEE International Conference on Robotics and Automation (ICRA), May 19-23, 2025, Atlanta, USA. (Acceptance Rate: 38.67%).
Jan 16 2025 :tada: Our paper Quadrotor Fault-Tolerant Control at High Speed: A Model-Based Extended State Observer for Mismatched Disturbance Rejection Approach has been published in IEEE Control System Letters and selected to present in the 2025 American Control Conference (ACC), to be held in DENVER, Colorado, USA, from July 7-10th, 2025.
Oct 23 2024 :tada: I am honored to have been selected for the 2024–2025 Assistant Professor Excellence Speaker Series (APeX) and to have delivered a talk titled “Safety-Enabled Learning, Control, and Optimization for AI-Powered Cyber-Physical Systems”.
Jul 21 2023 :tada: I am honored to serve as the UH site PI for a $700,000 NASA grant (2023–2026) led by Rice University (Dr. Jing Chen) in collaboration with Baylor University (Dr. Liang Sun) on adaptive human-autonomy responsibility allocation for scalable and safe m:N operational architectures.
