never happened before, cannot unwrap a model…

cannot unwrap part of the model:

cannot understood why.
Any idea?

Stay in Face selection mode , then in the 3D view unselect the whole model
Move your mouse on one of the leg and press L , so it will select only the part of that leg that is an island defined by your seams.

Look at what happens in the UV editor, is there absolutely nothing appearing there, and if there’s nothing, what happens you press U -> unwrap from only that part selected ?

Hi Sanctuary and thanks for your answer.

What you describing is the usual workflow I doing.
Repeating the process for the single island nothing cage:

only a little part is unwrapped.

Just to test, add a seam on that loop then unwrap that leg again , what happens in the UV editor ?

nothing cage…

What happens if you select only a couple of face of the part of the leg that do not seem to be unwrapped, press U -> Reset then U -> Unwrap

I must add that it would certainly be much easier to help with a blend (even only a part of the mesh in case you can’t share the whole thing).

This is very strange…
I imported mesh in modo, and the model is correctly unwrapped, only in blender part of the unwrapped mesh is not visible

but if I import back in blender the problem persist

If I trying what you suggest nothing happened.

Hmm, try that, it’s something that has fixed some odd problem i couldn’t find any other way to repair :

  • Click on File -> New to start with a completely new scene
  • Click on File -> Append
  • In the file browser go select your blend
  • Go into the Object category from the list and select calze.001 (the name of that object from what i see in the screenshot)

This will append that object in your new scene, now select it and go to Edit Mode, select all then look into the UV editor to see if the leg uv is now appearing ?

Doing it in a new scene, as you suggested, show the correct uv on screen…
Why?

My guess is that Blender may have a problem with importing that specific object no idea why exactly but i think it may add some unecessary data, data that you can’t access from the interface itself (or it would be easy to fix) but data that aren’t part of the Object library when you use the Append function.

It wouldn’t be the first time importing into Blender lead into odd behaviour, i remember some bug report about an OBJ (i think it was an iphone) that Blender was simply unable to open while every other app on the planet were loading it without problem (and the fix was to load the OBJ into Meshlab and resave it into an OBJ, for some reason only then Blender could import it), or would make some “0 area” face that you can’t even edit.

Is a very strange behaviour, because the mesh is entirely generated inside blender (a retopo upon a multyres sculpted model).

Very strange then, as usually this kind of oddity happen with meshes that were originally generated in other applications (due to dodgy import/export )

Seems a bug, but I don’t know how replicate this, so cannot report it.

Thanks for your support Sanctuary.

Yes, those are the most annoying bugs, the ones you can’t reproduce, i sometime run into something like that from time to time when working in Blender and just when i try to build a reproducible case, it simply … works without a problem, making it useless to report as it can’t be reproduced.
Anyways, good to see you got it working, the append trick is something to keep in mind, it fixed my own problems several time.

Is there some modifier causing this problem? Save a backup and apply modifiers before unwrapping to see if there’s a difference.

Also, thinking of Sanctuary’s mention of a 0-area face, if you select the whole mesh in edit mode and press p -> selection, to move the mesh to new object then you could eliminate the face.

Thanks Meat5000, just tried separating the object in different separated objects, don’t work.

The model is without modifier, but nothing cage if apply anytype of modify upon it.
