Hey guys,
could somebody help me with this?
Blender 2.8 is the most frustrating experience for me. Why remove the option to rotate the HDRI in the Texture tab? Maybe it is hidden somewhere but I can’t seem to find it. Now I first have to go to the node editor and add a mapping node in the world tab.
Thanks in advance.

Huh. Never thought to do that in the texture tab. Go to a shading window, change it from object in the upper left to world, put your environment texture in, plug it into the background, yadda yadda, add texture coordinates to the texture, rotate in texture coordinates.

Thanks but I know how to set that up. Its just another small thing they removed that saved you time. Since you didn’t have to set up anything by just going to the texture tab and chosing the environment map there.

You can access z value of mapping node quickly from properties if you have nodes already made:
To not setup this stuff every time you can save world material with just nodes in your startup blend.
Thank you I saw that as well. Its a little quicker than adding in in the Node Editor. Still confused why they removed the feature.

I think the whole texture tab of properties is legacy thing from blender internal days when blender didn’t have nodes / cycles and you only could load textures through it, which is why if you never used internal it was only required for very odd things (brush textures?).
Or maybe it has something to do with way blender handles data internally, I’m not sure, when I started using blender (2.73) it was already rarely used.

Like others have mentioned, the easiest way is through the node editor. If you want faster HDRI control though, I recommend using Greg Zaal’s addon, Gaffer. It provides numerous lighting tools, including a very efficient and powerful HDRI handler.
Blender 2.79 had a one click solution. It’s still not satisfying. I don’t think it woule be difficult to get this option back

Fracture 64’s solution is literally just as fast and convenient as the way you used to do.
but you’re right, it wouldn’t be difficult, I reckon you could write yourself a little python script to rotate HDRI’s even faster.

Close but not as fast. In 2.79 it’s one click to the texture tab. In 2.8 it’s three clicks to be correct. It’s fine by me now. I guess it was a legacy Blender Render thing that got removed then.
Another thing bothering me in 2.8 is that it takes a second to update the rotation of the environment. In 2.79 it’s instantaneous. Also modeling is slower in 2.8 but that’s another thing.
