Last week, we started the day (and TechBBQ Day 2) in a former Copenhagen Botanical Garden greenhouse. With our friends at Heartcore Capital, we welcomed VCs, LPs, and founders over jazz music, family-style breakfast portions, and lots of greenery. Thanks to everyone who joined our Jonathan Becker and Dominic Long-Innes, as well as Jimmy Fussing Nielsen, Christian Jepsen, Signe Marie Sveinbjørnsson, and Björn Nilsen from Heartcore. Great to see TechBBQ and the Danish ecosystem go from strength to strength every year! #TechBBQ2024

We had a blast kicking off SaaStr Annual 2024 last week 🚀 Headline Principal Jacob Conger spoke on a panel on the State of #AI along with Zendesk SVP CRM Applications Jon Aniano and Deel Head of Product Aaron Goldsmid. Here are a few key takeaways that we discussed: 1️⃣ AI is a bubble, but that doesn't make it a bad thing. All game-changing innovation requires meaningful capital and meaningful risk, and some of those dollars - aka some of that bubble - will always burst. 2️⃣ While AI has seen several step changes in innovation, it's still early, and we've yet to see small models integrate within a broader array of common use cases. When small models can run performantly and own context awareness of individual users/prosumers, the market will unlock. 3️⃣ Agentic workflows are presenting a compelling innovation, as they will undoubtedly unlock entire service industries and fundamentally change their margin profiles. That will also allow companies - large and small - to price per output, not by a seat or license, aligning to customer value meaningfully Thank you, Adam O'Donnell, for moderating and to all the founders who joined us! #SaaStr2024 Kenan Kitchen Kayla Ryan

Angel investors are the first believers in a tech ecosystem, taking the most risk on early-stage startups, often out of passion rather than gain. And some of them can even cook. Yesterday, we hosted the fifth edition of Angel Kitchen. After Berlin, Helsinki, Tallinn, and Copenhagen, we returned to Berlin to prepare (but mostly eat) Persian food with two PhD twin sisters turned food researchers. Thanks to everyone who cut, cooked, and plated with Christian, Isabel, and Jacopo! Next stop: Italian food in Munich. If you angel invest, write us directly for an invite.

Last week, we had the pleasure of hosting Russell Glass, the former CEO at Headspace, for a curated #founders & #investors dinner to discuss democratizing mental health in entrepreneurship. Not only did we hear first-hand from Russell about his journey and learnings, we also explored the next wave of innovative technologies that can make #mentalhealth support more accessible and affordable for everyone. A huge thank you to Founders Pledge and Emily Hoble for co-hosting an incredible evening with us at the Headline HQ in San Francisco. See you at the next event! How two unlikely co-founders are revolutionizing legal tech. 👇 Meet Nicole Clark and Alon Shwartz, the founder duo behind Trellis Law - an AI-powered platform making state court trial data truly accessible for the first time. Read Jett Fein's interview with the CEO and CTO to learn: • The unconventional way they became co-founders • Their unique approach to work-life balance • The worst VC question they've encountered (and the best answer) Oh, and find out why they have a "money tree" in their office. 💰🌳 Check out the full interview: https://lnkd.in/gtQmSnzv

Combining family legacy with the entrepreneurial spirit. ➡️➡️➡️ Steve Wen, Co-Founder and CEO of Dray Alliance, made a formative move from China to Los Angeles at age six. In the U.S., he found a sense of freedom that was missing from his younger years. "I didn't grow up to be the most obedient child in China, where the culture was very much: be a good kid, earn good grades, take the equivalent of SAT and go to a good college," Steve said. "Everyone was on the same path. Having that freedom of experimenting, of doing what I wanted to do was very important to me." After tinkering around with business ideas in college, Steve ultimately dropped out of UC Irvine to modernize his parents' business: port logistics. In founding Dray Alliance, learn how Steve's early experiences and family history shaped his mission to modernize the legacy industry. Read the full story. 🌟 https://lnkd.in/g3TvZixa

From serial bootstrappers to venture-backed. Happy to be (literally) the first check in AI startup Zive. Having led their previous company to a nine-digit exit, Jan Marius Marquardt and Piers Wermbter are building Zive, an AI-powered platform to make company knowledge easily accessible and free from AI hallucinations. "Imagine the productivity gains if all your employees knew what your whole company knows,” says Jan. Fully compliant with EU regulations and something companies can immediately use, Zive acts as a middle layer between a company’s teams, documents, and tools (like Slack, Zendesk, HubSpot, etc.) and the latest AI models, like those created by OpenAI and Headline portfolio company Mistral AI. We are happy to lead this $3.2M pre-seed, and Callum Burroughs at Business Insider has the story in the comments:
