Medieval university

The Collegium Maius in Cracow is one of the few medieval university buildings in Europe. It was built by Johann the Mason in 1492-97. The wings are grouped around a courtyard, the main features of which are an arcade placed forward of the wall to accommodate the upper-level walkway, over which looms a roof over-hang of the same width as the walkway.

Originally from Gdansk, David Loggan (1635-1700?) moved to England in the middle of the 17th century and became engraver to Oxford University, and subsequently to Cambridge University. He produced two volumes of architectural engravings, showing views of the colleges of the Universities, Oxonia illustrata and Cantabrigia illustrata.
