This representation of the Egyptian sun god shows the rays with stylized hands. The solar disk has a symbolic feather and the Egyptian symbol of the ankh appears at the bottom. Aten or Aton represented both the spirit or god of the sun and the actual solar disk. The god Ra (or Re) was thought to dwell in the disk of the sun. For a time, under the Pharaoh Akhenaton, the sun god reigned supreme. This king built a city named for himself, now el-Amarna.

Aten. I think the Egyptians worshiped the god of the sun because he gave them gifts. Maybe such as light, that's an Important thing. But I don't know, just guessing.
