Fun fact: Did you know that the males give birth? Yep...it's true. Male seahorses are equipped with a brood pouch on their ventral, or front-facing, side. When mating, the female deposits her eggs into his pouch, and the male fertilizes them internally. He carries the eggs in his pouch until they hatch, then releases fully formed, miniature seahorses into the water.

Male seahorses give birth to babies.Seahorses are the only animals in the entire animal kingdom in which the male, not the female gives birth and cares for their young! The female seahorse deposits the eggs into the male's small pouch like a kangaroo where the eggs are fertilized and where the baby seahorses grow until it is time for them to be born.
