Erub (Darnley) Island, is one Australia’s most remote places, located in the Torres Strait Islands. Artists from Erub Arts Collaborative have worked with ghost nets (abandoned fishing nets) to create a massive installation of an underwater world including vivid coral and magnificent sculptural fish, turtles, sharks and jellyfish. Ghost Nets of the Ocean shares the artists’ concerns for the loss of marine life and environmental damage caused by rogue nets.

Karen Casper conducted a workshop for textile students at my educational institution and exhibited one of her biggest pieces, “Miss Coral”. I am inspired by the delicacy she creates through the use of soluble fabric to represent the fragility of life.

The soft discosoma coral (commonly known as mushroom coral) is one of my favourite corals. It's delicate shape and bright colouring always draws my attention in aquariums. Candji's Under the Sea crazy quilt block is the last of our round robin blocks for me to work on. I'm running a little late due to several days with sinus crud this past month, and the loss of electricity for a couple of days due to the tornado.
