The 2nd Grade students studied the artist Vincent Van Gogh and his artwork. We also read the book, Camille and the Sunflowers. The students were able to create a giant sunflower creating emphasis in their artwork. Then they were shown how to blend colors using oil pastels. The students had to choose a cool color for their background to make their sunflower "pop" in their piece of art.

If you enjoy the famous artists like we do, here is a simple mixed media project for the kids inspired by Van Gogh's Sunflowers.

We did this in our middle school of 400 students as a way to show support for Ukraine. All students in the school made a sunflower and we made murals with them. Students were invited to donate $1 for the Red Cross to help their humanitarian work in the Ukraine. We raised $500 to send. I'm posting in case other schools would like to do this as well. It was a meaningful and easy project that brought our student community together to make a small difference. To make the sunflowers, we used this
