Book Bands

Book bands are used by primary schools to help pupils find books at the right reading level. Lilac (Wordless Books), Pink, Red and Yellow are for Age 4-5, whilst Blue, Green, Orange and Turquoise are for age 5-6 Years. Upper KS1 pupils at age 6-7 will be supported by Purple, Gold, White and Lime. Extended, or higher level Book Bands offer support up to the end of Key Stage 2.

We have carefully curated lists from all the major publishers and reading schemes, like Bug Club, Big Cat, Raintree, Oxford, Maverick, Reading Champion etc, as well as including ‘real’ banded books, that offer non-reading scheme books which may not be officially book-banded but offer a best-fit way for children to also use books they would see in bookshops and libraries.
