Brawlhalla is a free-to-play action game wherein you have to be quick on your feet. Developed by Blue Mammoth Games, this platformer features fast-paced combat reminiscent of Nintendo’s Super Smash Bros series. Offering a rich list of features and boundless entertainment, it's a testament to the genre's enduring appeal. 

In Brawlhalla, you will have to fight against other characters on a small floating map until either one player is left standing or the timer stops. Eliminating someone awards you one point while dying deducts one, so be careful not to fall off. 

A riveting multiplayer experience 

The goal is simple: eliminate everyone else and rack up points. To send your enemies flying, keep damaging them until their health bars at the top-right corner turn red. The playable characters here are called Legends—some of which are crossover characters. All of them can use two weapons, pick up throwable items like bombs and mines, and fight unarmed. 

This game has online and local co-op match modes, supporting up to eight players. There’s also Ranked and Battle Pass modes. For casual matches, you have the chaotic Free-for-All; Strikeout 1v1, wherein you pick 3 characters and play 1 stock each; Friendly 2v2, wherein you can play solo or with a friend; and Experimental 1v1, which lets you try out test features. Party modes are also available, like Brawlball and Capture the Flag.  

A new layer of chaos 

Brawlhalla released their shocking crossover with Borderlands, introducing fan-favorite characters like Claptrap, Lilith, Tiny Tina, and Krieg—each with unique skins, and animations fighting style. Furthermore, these characters brought with them their favorite weapons which you can use as skin. The crossover skins for Borderlands characters don’t alter the actual mechanics or abilities of the legends, so players won’t need to worry about mastering new characters—it's more of a cosmetic upgrade. 

The integration of Borderlands characters into Brawlhalla is well-executed, complete with the franchise’s character’s personality and sense of humor. While the crossover brings something new to the game, it largely remains the same, making it repetitive for players looking for advanced changes. Furthermore, the current content in the game is limited to characters, items, and maps—which can be disappointing for players looking for more. 

Become a legend 

Overall, Brawlhalla is a great choice for a multiplayer platformer game. Its full cross-play across all platforms ensures you can play whenever and wherever. Plus, you can create custom rooms for online and local play. Many of its issues lie in the limited additions to new content and repetitive gameplay, especially for players looking for an addition or a fresh dynamic to the gameplay.
