Logo
Skoltech’s name is literally made of its results and achievements. The complexity, depth or pomposity of the logo will not show that. Our brand is simple and understandable. Skoltech is...well, Skoltech!

Typography
We made the typography as simple and comfortable to use as possible. There is only 1 official font for designed materials and a substitute font for working with documents and presentations.
System Font
It’s possible to use Arial as a substitute for documents and presentations that require frequent edits. This font is available on every computer and Google Docs.

Please use only two font weights: standard (Futura PT Medium/Arial Regular) and bold (Futura PT Demi/Arial Bold). Other font weights are not permitted.

Grid System
In order to put together any material, use Skoltech’s approved grid system. We made it as simple and flexible as possible, it only has two elements — correctly aligned margins and a column system.

Start with the margins. By default, they are the same from all sides of the document:

Graphic
Skoltech is one of a kind. Skoltech is the statement. It’s the idea and the emotion. To express that, we developed a symbol used in our graphics — it looks like an exclamation point, but if you prefer to call it by its official name,
it’s The Factorial.

The Factorial consists of a square foundation which will always be aligned along the bottom of the material. It also has a triangular top. The side of the base/bottom part is determined based on the material’s grid.
The bottom and top parts of the Factorial connect only in one spot: in the top left corner of the Factorial’s base.

The top part of the Factorial must be at least 2 times wider than the base of the bottom part: you may make it wider, but not thinner. In case the angle or top width change, it’s possible not to align the top part of the factorial to the grid.
The Factorial can be colored in any allowed colors (the base and the top part must be colored the same). Please don’t forget that each type of material uses either one single color or one color combination.
The Factorial is flexible in its use: you may add logos and photos in the square base, and text — in the top triangular part (following the typography and grid rules).

Please keep in mind:

Images
Please follow these simple rules for using illustrations and photos in your materials: select clean and natural illustrations in high resolution and convert them into grayscale color scheme (unless the color carries a meaning for the material). Never use clipart or unnatural stock photos.
Illustrations
Images can be darkened and used as background for text. Do not add any filter or change the shape of the image to anything other than square or rectangular.

Portraits
All portraits must be cropped so the face of the person on the photo is at least half of the photo itself. All portraits must be in grayscale. Try to select lively and natural photos, where the heroes are ‘caught in the moment’. Avoid unnatural and official photos where possible.
