Please join us in welcoming a new addition to the safety team at British Skydiving - Kev Dynan.

Kev will be joining us in the role of Safety and Training Officer, he will be working alongside Ryan and Jeff. Kev's joining completes the safety team at British Skydiving.

Kev joins British Skydiving from a busy PTO where he was a full-time instructor and Deputy Chief Instructor. He started skydiving in 2001 and gained his first instructor rating in 2009, an eventful course as an instructor candidate deployed his canopy in the aircraft as he was moving to the door on a static line jump! He has just under 9,000 jumps, and is an Advanced Instructor, Examiner and CT/CP Coach.

Outside skydiving, Kev has interests in travel and flying. He holds a helicopter PPL and a degree in Geography. He taught in Ghana for 6 months when he finished his degree, has travelled to various exotic parts of the world and has been involved in running overseas volunteer organisations.

“Instructing is my skydiving passion, and I still find it an honour to take, teach or film someone on their first ever skydive. Being awarded an examiner rating further fuelled my passion for teaching and I’ve had the privilege of working on courses with the instructors of the future, who I hope will carry their passion forward and inspire the students they train to become future skydivers.

Outside working with the next generation of skydivers and instructors, I developed a keen interest in safety which was motivated by a couple of incidents at PTOs where I have worked at. This inspired me to look at the causes of incidents and, in particular, the human factors that lead up to them. I firmly believe that training people in the causes of incidents and the lessons learnt will ultimately help us to prevent similar incidents from happening again.

I look forward to working with the next generation of instructors, playing my part in keeping skydiving safe and taking a role in this new and exciting time for British Skydiving.”

At the STC meeting of 3rd August 2023, the following amendments were made to the British Skydiving Operations Manual:

Tandem instructors wishing to jump with a hand/wrist mounted camera must have a minimum of 500 Tandem descents and have completed a minimum of 250 Tandem descents within the previous 12 months or, have a minimum of 1,000 Tandem descents and have completed a minimum of 100 Tandem descents within the previous 12 months. Prior to jumping with a hand/wrist mounted camera with Tandem Students the Tandem Instructor must demonstrate the ability to perform 3 successful consecutive Tandem jumps with an ‘A’ Licence skydiver acting as a Tandem Student whilst using a hand/wrist mounted camera.

5.9.1. Any TI wishing to continue jumping a hand/wrist mounted camera 12 months after first being cleared to do so must have made 100 Tandem skydives with at least 50 hand/wrist mounted camera descents within the preceding 12 calendar months, otherwise they must again satisfy the initial requirements.

British Skydiving proudly announces the appointmen

British Skydiving proudly announces the appointment of Rob Gibson as its new Chief Executive Officer.

The CEO position will supersede the current COO role held by Tony Butler, who formally advised of his intention to retire from the role back in May 2023. The appointment of Rob follows an extensive and robust recruitment process. He will commence his duties from 28th August 2023.

Rob is a sport leader with an excellent track record across multiple leading governing bodies in the high-performance sport industry. He will bring a wealth of leadership experience and strategic expertise to British Skydiving.

In his role in GB Boxing, a multi-Olympic medal winning programme, Rob delivered significant portfolio and organisational change as part of transforming its talent strategy. His deep sports knowledge and proven ability to drive innovation and results will be instrumental in steering British Skydiving towards continued success in an ever-evolving membership body landscape.

In accepting the role, Rob expressed enthusiasm for the opportunity to lead British Skydiving into its next phase of growth. He stated, “I’m extremely excited with leading British Skydiving over the next phase of development. There is huge potential to grow the sport, targeting new markets, especially with a surge in the extreme sport, adrenaline and adventure ecosystem.”

"Each time we do this, we are so inspired by the women who come - these women of courage, resourcefulness, determination and a willingness to try something different. Those who've persevered despite injuries, or had a long break from skydiving or come not really knowing anyone or those who came and jumped and made great progress. All of you make the event such a success and it is humbling to hear how much you gained from it, how much you enjoyed it and found out how bloody great it is for women to have a bit of time together.
