The Builder-in-Residence program is a 3-month program where student builders turn raw concepts into working open-source projects powered by Bright Data.

We’re looking for technical leaders who build in public and inspire developers with production-ready work.

You’ll create “Bright Data +1” projects: tools and apps combining Bright Data’s web infrastructure with leading AI and developer technologies.

Who should apply

We’re looking for technically strong students who can build independently, communicate clearly, and ship consistently.

ELIGIBILITY

Applicants must be current students pursuing a degree in Computer Science or a related technical field.

TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS

Strong applicants are skilled developers (JS/TS/Python) with experience in modern data workflows and AI frameworks. They deliver clean, well-documented, production-ready code.

What you'll build

Each builder creates open-source projects that combine Bright Data technology with at least one other major tool or platform.

Program milestones

The residency runs for 3 months. Each month, builders ship one iteration of an open-source project or major project milestone.

WEEK 1

Spec
Define the project roadmap:

WEEK 2-3

Build
Develop and document the process
  • Push code
  • Solve technical blockers
  • Share learnings
  • Improve reliability and usability

WEEK 4

Launch
Publish and promote the project:
  • GitHub repo live
  • README and setup instructions complete
  • Demo, docs, or walkthrough published
  • Social posts shared on GitHub, X, LinkedIn, Discord, or relevant communities

What we expect

Builders should be ready to commit approximately 8 hours per week throughout the residency.
All projects must be:
  • Open source
  • Published on GitHub
  • Clearly documented
  • Built with Bright Data technology at the core
  • Shared publicly with the developer community
Builders are expected to build in public by sharing progress, technical lessons, launches, and project updates.

Stipend
Builders receive a total stipend of $3,000 for successful participation in the 3-month residency.

Builders receive Bright Data credits, mentorship from engineers and senior architects, code reviews, weekly check-ins, bi-weekly syncs, monthly cohort meetings, and possible project amplification.

Yes. Builders receive a total stipend of $3,000 for successful participation in the 3-month residency.

Builders may be eligible for a $500 performance bonus for projects that reach defined engagement milestones, such as GitHub stars, forks, or meaningful community traction.
