This 1969 Volkswagen Beetle was modified under previous ownership with custom fiberglass bodywork including a faired-in pickup bed as well as a vintage American-style front end. The vehicle is finished in coral and beige over a tan interior, and power is from a 1,600cc flat-four paired with a four-speed manual transaxle. The car was brought from California to New York circa 2017 according to the selling dealer, who acquired it in early 2020. Subsequent service reportedly included a tune-up, installation of a crankcase sand seal, and electrical work. This custom Beetle is offered with a service manual and transferable New York registration.
The body features a fiberglass hood peaked at the nose, a 1930s American-style grille, a greenhouse cut at the B-pillar, and a custom pickup bed featuring a flip-up engine cover, chrome cleats, and a ribbed vinyl mat. Holes have been drilled into the bed, and the drop-down tailgate is said to be in need of replacement.
Steel wheels with black centers wear replacement lug nuts and 185/70R-14 General Altimax RT tires. Braking is from drums at both ends. LED taillamps and associated wiring have been added.
Tan cloth and brown vinyl cover the high-backed seats, while the doors wear plywood panels and aftermarket hardware. A T-handle shifter replaces the stock version. The steel dash houses a stock speedometer and an aftermarket temperature gauge. Approximately 13k miles are shown on the five-digit odometer, with the actual total unknown. The windshield wiper motor, horn, and Kenwood CD player are said to have been rewired by the selling dealer.
The air-cooled flat-four reportedly displaces 1,600cc, and is said to have received a tune-up and a new crankcase sand seal under current ownership. A four-speed manual transaxle routes power to the rear wheels.
A spiral-bound copy of John Muir’s illustrated VW repair manual, How to Keep Your Volkswagen Alive, is included in the sale. Videos below show an engine start and a walk-around.
