Tech IS politics. Tim Cook manages a company that rivals small nation's economies. He's one of the most effective politicians of the modern age, and Apple pours money into marketing and lobbying efforts. Apple has tremendous influence over governments, and appeals against regulations.
Apple is a political bully and Tim Cook is a liar.

I've just finished reading the UK Government's new report today on the use of copyright works in the development of artificial intelligence (AI) systems, produced by the Dept for Science, Innovation and Technology, the Dept for Culture, Media and Sport & the Intellectual Property Office UK.

Here are the key respondent views + conclusions from the government - I'm available for on-air commentary as needed:

📌Gov UK most concerned about AI creating "digital replicas" of someone’s voice or face - but bizarrely not bothered about copyrighted texts, images, software etc being used in AI model training datasets (the report calls it "input transparency")

📌There is currently no mandate for AI developers to disclose publicly what IP they are using in their datasets, only which web crawlers they use to crawl the internet. But not what data they crawl or what it is used for

📌Creative industries strongly support the introduction of mandatory standards on input transparency, while tech firms have complained of the "practical and financial burdens of disclosure", particularly affecting small AI startups

📌AI developers & tech firms want exceptions to copyright for AI innovation. Creative industries have rejected the option to opt out of this

📌Gov UK to work on best practices around labelling the content outputted by AI models as AI-generated, but they want to see what other nations do first

📌However, Govt UK said this despite including in this report the new legislation from California, China and South Korea that already requires AI content to be labelled as such on release

📌Gov UK won't "intervene" in the copyright licensing market right now, because "many stakeholders" didn't want it (who tho? 👀)

📌Gov UK to "consider" further work on barriers to enforcing IP rights

Dunno, feels like the House of Lords is right. The UK Govt is still hedging against tightening legislation, in favour of the tech giants.

But what happens when the AI models ingest everything related to all white collar jobs that require a computer? What will we do then?

            🚨 Why Choose PH4NTXM OS?

In a world where every device, every connection, and every click is monitored, the need for true privacy and security has never been more urgent. Here's why PH4NTXM OS is the choice for anyone who values freedom, autonomy, and total control over their digital life.

            🔒 No Telemetry, No Tracking
While most operating systems silently send your data back to the provider, PH4NTXM leaves no traces. There’s no telemetry, no data collection, no history retained. Once your session ends, it’s gone—no lingering traces to be uncovered by adversaries.

            💻 Lightweight & Efficient
Built on Debian with the XFCE desktop environment, PH4NTXM is designed to run fast and smooth on a wide range of hardware. It’s optimized for ephemeral execution, meaning it runs entirely in RAM and leaves no footprint behind. Perfect for those who need a secure, fast, and lightweight system.

            🌐 Designed for Hostile Environments
PH4NTXM is engineered for the highest-risk scenarios. Whether you're a researcher, journalist, or privacy advocate, this OS ensures your digital activities remain hidden—even from network observers and forensic analysis. With features like identity randomization, network fingerprint fuzzing, and post-quantum cryptography, PH4NTXM goes far beyond what most security tools offer.

            🛡️ End-to-End Security
The system is hardened against attacks, with built-in defenses against brute-force attempts and physical tampering. Nuke Kernel and Panic Button features give you instant control, ensuring that no trace is left behind in case of a breach or forced shutdown.

            🌍 Resilient in Surveillance
In a world of continuous surveillance, PH4NTXM offers a true alternative. It doesn't assume permanent observation—it ensures your privacy is designed into the environment itself. Whether you’re protecting your personal identity or working on high-risk projects, PH4NTXM is your trusted companion.

            🔑 For the Informed Operator
PH4NTXM isn’t designed for casual users. It’s for those who understand the stakes—those who know that privacy isn’t just a feature, but a responsibility. If you’re ready to take control and operate without leaving unnecessary traces, PH4NTXM is built for you.

💡 More than Just an OS
PH4NTXM is not just a tool. It’s a philosophy. A commitment to autonomy, security, and true privacy in an increasingly monitored world.

We're currently developing a new Activity Decoy Engine for PH4NTXM, designed to inject fake system activity to enhance privacy and security. This engine will simulate behaviors like file access, network requests, and CPU activity, creating a layer of decoy operations to obscure your real activities from prying eyes.

Why is this important? In environments where privacy is critical, adding noise to system activity is a simple but powerful technique to confuse and mislead attackers or surveillance systems.

If you’re experimenting with PH4NTXM, this is a great opportunity to explore new ways to protect your identity while maintaining a seamless experience in live environments.

We’re entering the agentic AI era — and infrastructure is evolving fast.

NVIDIA’s new Vera Rubin platform brings together specialized chips (Vera CPUs, Rubin GPUs, Groq LPUs, and BlueField-4 DPUs) into coordinated, rack-scale systems designed for real-time AI.

Instead of relying on a single processor type, this architecture splits AI workloads across purpose-built components — enabling faster inference, lower latency, and more efficient “AI factories” at scale.

The big shift: AI isn’t just about training models anymore — it’s about orchestrating entire systems to power intelligent, autonomous agents in real time.

100 years ago today, Robert Goddard launched his first liquid-fueled rocket (nicknamed "Nell") from a snowy field outside Worcester, Massachusetts, and changed the history of exploration.

The remains of the original rocket are mostly lost, but its legacy is everywhere.

Engineers are currently pulling the world's first fiber-optic ocean cable off the Atlantic floor. TAT-8 changed the world in 1988 by turning your voice into pulses of light. It only lasted 14 years before it broke, but it proved we could wire the planet. We're recycling the metals now. Workers have to coil the glass fibers by hand on a ship to prevent them from snapping. It's a reminder that our life depends on thin strands of glass sitting in the dark.

This isn't about your hurt feelings or Lacey's hurt feelings, or about some wispy opinions on whether coding is "real" or not. It's about whether software development, "software engineering" as it's sometimes called (usually in error), will ever raise itself out of the swamps of the current-day slop-happy culture of capitalist , take some responsibility for its own actions, and rise to the level of a *genuine engineering discipline*—with standards designed around serving the public interest.

As long as tenth-raters such as yourself as Lacey dominate this field, Mr. Dot-Com—people who seem to care only about themselves and their feelings, and who want to keep software development stuck as a sort of playset for aging children (who expect to be paid ridiculous amounts of money for their playtime, in comparison to the wages of those who do actual constructive work like sweeping floors or bagging groceries0 then is going to remain where it is right now: 99.9% trash.

As AI automates the cognitive, analytical, and communications work that college educated professionals have built careers around, those white collar jobs shrink in value and number. The people most exposed are educated women who vote Democrat. Meanwhile, trade and vocational workers, the plumbers, electricians, and machinists who lean Republican and male, become harder to replace with software. Karp isn't just predicting this shift. He is building the technology that accelerates it, cashing Pentagon checks along the way, and calling it patriotism.

We are watching a tiny class of AI billionaires reshape society, redistribute political power, and embed themselves into government infrastructure without a single vote being cast. Even Palantir's own head of communications called the company's political drift "concerning."

The solution is not complicated: tax these people aggressively, break up these contracts, and demand democratic oversight of AI before the architecture of our entire society gets quietly handed over to a few unelected men with god complexes and government clearances.

                                                                                    Here is the @guardian take

I lost count of the amount of keyboards I've had to replace, both internal in my laptops and external usb ones. I know there are silicone options, but they are very mushy, often have strange layouts, and are full-sized. I am totally blind, so I need both tactility and the layout to be normal, or at least, close to it. I tried at least one a keyboard cover, but it made it very difficult to feel the keys, since it was thick and felt like a single sheet of silicone, even though it did have the spaces for each key.

But I've gone through about seven of them already, because I keep shorting out keys. I try to remap them, but after awhile, it just becomes annoying.

It's okay, but I always have to use Auto Hotkey to add an Applications key and reverse the left Alt and Windows keys. Plus, not all programs recognise the changes. I have no idea how long it will last, either, since this is my first one. But at this price, I don't want to keep buying them. It's not portable enough to fit in my bag with my tablet, but it's thin, light, and not huge.

They say it's for my Toughpad, which is a seven-inch tablet, but it's a giant, full-sized keyboard! Why they would make this for such a small machine is beyond me. That said, if this were compact, it would be perfect, since it's rigid with good key tactility. While they say it's mechanical, don't expect anything like a Model M.

Can anyone help me find a good, portable keyboard that can withstand my sweat?

After the initial Arrow Lake launch struggled to win over gamers, this "Plus" refresh aims to reclaim the gaming crown. Intel is reporting a 15% boost in gaming performance over the previous 200S models, achieved through increased efficiency core (E-core) counts, a 900MHz boost in die-to-die speeds to reduce latency, and aggressive pricing—specifically the $199 Core Ultra 5 250K Plus—that directly undercuts AMD’s Ryzen 9000 series.

This pricing removes the previous economic barriers for standard, high-volume personal computers in a way Dell or HP haven't been quite able to do so far.

I think it doesn't threaten the ThinkPad or heavy-duty workstations per se, but it absolutely wrecks the value proposition of premium chromebooks and low-end windows ARM machines.

The answer is uncertain, but one thing is clear: the commodification of information serves only to reinforce class hierarchies. As financial elites manipulate alternative data for speculative gain and employers use bossware to extract ever more surplus-value, the question we must ask is not merely how to regulate these practices, but how to dismantle the very system that enables them. A society built on the enclosure of knowledge is not a free society. It is a society of control, and it is time to resist."

Our latest builds successfully negotiated hybrid post-quantum key exchange across multiple protocols. The system now prioritizes ML-KEM and hybrid lattice-based exchanges for TLS connections and hybrid post-quantum key exchange for SSH, while maintaining secure classical fallbacks for compatibility.

This means PH4NTXM boots as a stateless live environment with post-quantum-capable cryptography already integrated into the network stack. No external configuration required.

The goal is simple but ambitious: a privacy-focused, stateless live OS that boots with quantum-resistant cryptographic capabilities built directly into the system.

Our build pipeline now compiles the post-quantum cryptographic stack during the live-build process and embeds it into the OS while keeping the final ISO minimal and free of build tooling.

Next steps are runtime verification and integration with networking components so that PH4NTXM can begin leveraging quantum-resistant algorithms for secure communications.

If everything proceeds as expected, PH4NTXM may become the first privacy-focused live Linux distribution shipping with built-in post-quantum cryptography.
