How are we in a world where these two statements are widely seen as simultaneously true: (1) You always know when you see a trans woman so Sex Matters toilet terrorists are just fine, and (2) trans women are so sneaky the IOC has to catch them out with genetic testing?
There has only ever been one trans woman athlete at the Olympics, and she finished last. It wasn't a trans sneak attack, the athlete made no secret of her history. There is no evidence at all of trans women "stealing" soort from cis women. This ban is transphobic but the direct victims of the ruling are intersex and cis women who are now required to "prove" they are women. I have a killer migraine today and so can't watch the debate — I tried for a little bit but ughhhhh, my entire brain is borked today.
It is curious framing though. The two major themes emerging seem to be a) that it's being rushed, and b) that it's an 'Establishment versus victims' dispute. On the latter, it's largely being presented as female victims of sexual violence seeking better justice opposite an entrenched bar clinging to antiquity.
Hmmm.
I have mixed feelings on this. I have my affection for the constitutional principle, but also concur with Leveson's report. Plus I have a lot of faith in our judiciary so doubt it'd lead to short term disaster.
Were the Tories (who caused all this in the first place) or Reform doing this though, I'd oppose it, particularly since it'll poison and politicise the judiciary in the long term.

Keir Starmer is answering questions from members of the public in a community centre in London. He is asked what he is trying to do to bring communities together at such a divided time.
“It is a really sad feature – isn’t it – at a time that this that some people will try to use it as an opportunity to divide,” the prime minister said.
“We have to be really conscious that where people want to divide at the moment in relation to this conflict it’s in the space of trying to divide the Muslim community and the Jewish community so we are working particularly on those two strands.”
Starmer says one of his “biggest concerns” is that there are too many politicians who want to “set up grievances between different groups of people”, something he says he fundamentally rejects as he praises the diversity of the country.
