The UK government is playing whack-a-mole with online safety.

Plans to further age-gate the Internet dodges the real issue – the power of Big Tech.

Failing to regulate AI and the age verification industry puts the rights of users in peril.

All UK elections for the 50 years before Tony Blair destroyed our collective faith in politics had turnouts over 70% - many over 75%, and some over 80%.

After Blair that mostly dropped to 60%-65% - even was only 72% turnout.

Finally, in desperation, they chose to sacrifice liberty in the hope of getting something to eat."

Well, Sarwar's toast. Maybe, depending on how the rest of the week goes.

Starmer's not going anywhere so long as Cabinet stands by him, and so far they all are — Powell included.

And Rayner standing by him after he stood by her indicates to me their friendship is genuine: bbc.co.uk/news/live/c74wd01egv

There's been lots of positive forecasting for the economy this year and a boom looks increasingly likely, but this stat is astonishing: productivity grew more in the last year than in the previous seven combined, and with unemployment rising, a tepid labour market, and lots of organisational churn.

It could be 'creative destruction' at play — the market readjusting toward a more efficient allocation of resources.

I don't know my view yet, but I didn't hate him before the new revelations about Mandelson, and I'll withhold judgement until we get all the Humble Address files.

Archer kept his title, but getting out fast with Mandelson and not even waiting for charges to fall demonstrates, I think, that the Humble Address documents are going to be utterly damning for Mandelson — if the Epstein emails weren't enough.

A wild ride… “Based off the newest tranche of emails and texts released by the Justice Department this weekend, Epstein, at the very least, believed that he was orchestrating the downfall of the global order in the 2010s. In June 2016, he emailed venture capitalist, early Facebook investor, and Palantir founder Peter Thiel, writing, “Brexit, just the beginning.” He then laid out the most succinct mission statement we currently have for what Epstein was trying to accomplish. “Return to tribalism,” he wrote. “Counter to globalization. Amazing new alliances. You and I both agreed zero interest rates were too high, and as I said in your office. Finding things on their way to collapse was much easier than finding the next bargain.” 😮

this is the closest this article comes to mentioning that Sir Kier himself
appointed Mandelson, and to me frames the appointment of a close
friend of the world's most notorious paedophile grossly inappropriately.
it also makes no mention of Mandelson's long involvement as an adviser
to Sir Kier.
Downing Street was aware at the time of
appointing the former Labour grandee that
making him US ambassador was a high-risk,
high-reward strategy, but could not have
envisaged such a swift fall from grace.

Labour peer

The Epstein files raise questions about UK national security and we are only "at
the tip of the iceberg” of the story, says Labour peer Baroness Hazarika.

"What did Jeffrey Epstein want back for this?” she told Sky News' Gareth Barlow,
referring to what she said was Epstein's ability to offer ‘powerful’ people what
they wanted.

"We haven't got to the bottom of all of these emails, because the American
authorities will not release them all, and they should be fully released because
clearly some people are being protected,” she said

Baroness Hazarika said a big story" was "beginning to brew” about national
security when it comes to how the information exchanged was being used.

“I think we are really at the tip of the iceberg of this story.” she added.

She called on anybody who had links to Epstein to “get on the plane and do the
right thing” by testifying to US Congress over their dealings with him - but said she
felt it was unlikely to happen.

On days like this though, I'm in favour of outright abolishing them.

'Horrible' - Labour MPs criticise Tory HQ for suggesting
Braverman's mental health factor in her defection

Labour MPs have condemned Tory HQ for suggesting that Suella
Braverman’s mental health played a role in her decision to defect to Reform
UK. (See 1.41pm.)

‘This is from Mike Tapp, a Home Office minister.

44 I have no sympathy for Suella Braverman when it comes to politics and what
she did to our immigration system.

But the Tories attacking her mental health is below the standards we expect.
British values are strong but decent, firm but fair. Neither the Tories nor Reform
signup to that.

‘This is from Josh Fenton-Glynn.

44 This statement is horrible. Attacking someone on mental health is wrong.
The whole thing reads as petty and churlish. The kind of first draft of an email
you do before having a cup of tea and letting your better angels take over.

of Minneapolis, including of Alex Pretti, would not come as a
shock to Iraqis in Fallujah or Afghans in Helmand province -
terrorized by US execution squads for decades.

It would not come as a shock to any of the students | teach
in prison. Militarized police in poor urban neighborhoods kick
down doors without warrants & kill with the same impunity.
What the rest of us are facing now is what Aimé Césaire
called "imperial boomerang.” Decaying empires employ the
same savage forms of control at home as they do abroad.
With the collapse of Athenian democracy, the tyranny Athens
imposed on others, it finally imposed on itself.

But before we became the victims of state terror, we were
accomplices. Before we expressed moral outrage at the
indiscriminate taking of innocent lives, we tolerated, & often
celebrated, the same Gestapo tactics directed at those who
lived in the nations we occupied or poor people of color.

We sowed the wind, now we will reap the whirlwind. The
machinery of terror, perfected on those we abandoned &
betrayed, including the Palestinians in Gaza, is ready for us.

This is the day we can be confident that Labour has completely given up
on the next election. Starmer is more concerned with his job and his
flunkies with internal conflict than governing.

It's a straight fight now between,

The Green Party --- and --- Refascist

Time to pick a side.
