The new rule just published, mandated by the GOP and Trump give-a-way welfare package to rich, call The Big Beautiful Bill, is over 400 damn pages long, and is harsher and more restrictive than states first imagined it would be. The rule takes effect in Jan 2028.
People must prove they are too "frail" by cruel GOP standards, to work to keep their Medicaid health care. A doctor's statement won't be enough. Medicaid will use a variety of methods to test, including AI, to determine, and at the end of the day, it will be up to a bureaucrat's judgement and not a set of written criteria.

I had a rather unsettling and frankly insulting incident last night at work.
I work retail and my store has had one of those (I'm guessing Flock operated maybe?) portable police camera things for at least a year or more.
It's a little tiny trailer with a solar panel and a spire that's probably 10 or 15ft high with at least four cameras at the top, that can all be folded up for transport.
So I'm out pushing carts in the miserable heat near this godforsaken camera apparatus, and suddenly I hear something to the effect of "You in the red reflective vest, you must leave this area immediately!"
At some point quite recently, they apparently activated the ability of this little trailer to yell at passersby. It's like the cop version of those car alarms that chirp if you walk too closely by it in a cramped parking garage.
It was presumably AI-initiated. But it managed to identify not just that I was wearing a red vest, but a red vest with reflective strips. I guarantee you there was no one within visual range wearing a *red* safety vest with reflective strips (I'm the only one that wears that color because it's my own personal vest).
I was verbally accosted by an ACAB toaster with a video feed, for doing my job and daring to be in its general vicinity.
Creepy as fuck.
Apparently, "whatever it takes" means "do nothing but talk".

The Department of Justice is reportedly planning to drop charges against Matthew Goettsche, creator of the Bitclub Network cryptocurrency Ponzi scheme that defrauded investors out of $722 million.24 Goettsche was indicted in 2019 after offering investors what he claimed were shares in a bitcoin mining pool and encouraging them to recruit other investors. Goettsche told his business partners that he was “building this whole model on the backs of idiots”, also describing his investors as “dumb” and “sheep”. When he told a co-conspirator to falsely “bump up the daily mining earnings starting today by 60%,” his partner replied, “that is not sustainable, that is ponzi teritori [sic] and fast cash-out ponzi . . . but sure.” He later directed a co-conspirator to reduce the supposed mining earnings so he could “retire RAF!!! Goettsche has been lobbying the Department of Justice for relief from the prosecution, hiring a team of lawyers with connections to President Trump. Among them is Bradford Cohen, an attorney who appeared as a contestant on The Apprentice in 2004 and has been an avid Trump supporter ever since, and Brett Tolman, a lawyer and Fox News contributor who has been helping clients lobby for Trump pardons since the first Trump administration. Among Tolman’s past clients are Charles Kushner, father of Trump son-in-law Jared Kushner, and crypto cause célèbre Ross Ulbricht [I75].26 Cohen has also been in the Trump pardon business since Trump’s first presidency, successfully lobbying for clemency for rappers Lil Wayne and Kodak Black.27

The world of prediction markets continues to be a crypto-esque wild west. Polymarket — a leading platform and one that counts Donald Trump Jr. among its investors and strategic advisers — is at the center of a recent Wall Street Journal investigation alleging that the company has been paying social media influencers to film themselves making fake trades, then using a “social-media army” to boost the videos. According to the Journal’s analysis of more than 1,000 videos posted by creators working with a Polymarket-contracted marketing company, $1.9 million in supposed bets were placed, but none were real. Among the influencers promoting Polymarket is Adin Ross, an Andrew Tate protégé with a multi-million dollar deal with the company. In videos, Ross repeatedly spoke about how he could profit from insider trading on Polymarket, such as by betting on the release date of an album by his friend Drake.17

If the Clarity Act dies, the crypto industry loses its best chance at a sweeping bill that would lock in the deregulatory gains they’ve achieved through agency capture. The SEC and CFTC are currently run by Trump loyalists who have aggressively rolled back enforcement and reinterpreted their authority to favor crypto, but the crypto industry knows that agency policy can be reversed by the next administration. That’s why they have been so desperate to get the Clarity Act signed into law. Losing it would be a massive blow to the industry after it committed $200 million (and counting) in super PAC spending since 2024, with a sweeping legislative rewrite as a primary goal.

With the Senate only in session for about two more weeks before the August recess, the Clarity Act cryptocurrency market structure bill’s chances of passing are growing slimmer by the day. Any hope of the bill clearing both chambers before August is already dead, given that the House begins its recess session at the end of this week. The Senate has a little longer — until August 7 — although some Senators have already said they will be absent next week to attend the funeral of Senator Lindsey Graham.1
When Congress returns in September, its members will be consumed by the midterms, leaving little time for complex negotiations. The lame duck session follows that: a notoriously challenging time for major legislation. The Clarity Act may well be kaput under this Congress, and the industry-tailored bill will face a significantly more challenging — if not impossible — path to law if Republicans lose their trifecta in the midterms. In May, Senator Cynthia Lummis predicted that if the bill doesn’t pass under this Congress, the next opportunity would likely not come until 2030.2
And even Republicans have expressed concerns with the bill, revisiting the issue of stablecoin yield that negotiators thought they had resolved.
The bill needs sixty votes to pass, which would require all Republicans and seven Democrats to sign on.

And it’s not just Democrats who may pose obstacles. Some Republicans have also expressed concerns with the draft. Senators John Curtis (UT) and John Cornyn (TX) told Punchbowl News they aren’t happy with the result of the stablecoin negotiations, and remain worried that allowing stablecoin operators to offer yield could trigger deposit flight from community banks. “Crypto is not going to be loaning any money for small businesses,” Cornyn said. “If we’re taking loan capacity away from our banks who are in these communities — I want to make sure that we’re not hurting the very people who rely on these banks.”11 However, he told Semafor’s Eleanor Mueller that it would be “premature” to say whether he would vote against the current draft.12 Republican Senator Bill Cassidy (LA) also intimated that he “might” have concerns with the bill, but did not specify what they were.11
Republicans could force the draft bill to a vote before the August recess, and Majority Leader John Thune has repeatedly hinted he may do just that, but whether even the most crypto-friendly Democrats will support it remains dubious. The bill needs sixty votes to pass, meaning at least seven Democrats must sign on. After that, it would still have to pass the House.
Though Republicans are preemptively pinning blame on Democrats if the crypto bill fails to pass, Democrats are so far holding out for meaningful ethics language, and have suggested that ethics is not their only complaint with the draft legislation.

Senator Elizabeth Warren (MA) said the bill “does nothing to stop President Trump from making his next $1.4 billion from crypto” and will “supercharge” his crypto corruption.9
Even seven of the Democratic Senators most open to crypto legislation — Alsobrooks, Booker (NJ), Cortez Masto (NV), Gallego, Hickenlooper (CO), Warner (VA), and Warnock (GA) — issued a statement that the draft “as it currently stands falls short”. Ethics, they noted, was only one problem with the bill. “Key provisions including those addressing ethics for elected officials, consumer protection, illicit finance, conflicts of interest and market integrity must be strengthened.”10 They noted that they were still committed to negotiating an acceptable version of the bill, but given this lengthy list of concerns and the dwindling time before August recess, the feasibility of reaching agreement seems doubtful.
Ethics enforcement would be left to a DOJ that has shown no appetite for reining in Trump’s corruption. The provision would expire in 2029, and explicitly bars retroactive enforcement against Trump.
Any fine is capped at $500k: less than 0.04% of what the President brought in from crypto last year.

The entire Taylor Farms Cyclospora lettuce debacle with an FDA backpedal is highly suspect to me - especially when this corporation has been a huge contributor to the current admin and after the fact they had a "private meeting".
Especially when people realize Taylor Farms private labels their lettuce for what seems like at least 1/3 of the lettuce products out there.
You'd think instead of the FDA calling this a "false positive" , despite the huge list of epidemiological evidence in the matter, they would have actually tested the lettuce that was apart of the recall.
Yes, the lettuce they tested was a "contaminated sample collected through targeted import surveillance as part of the agency's investigation. The agency said Taylor Farms confirmed the positive sample is not part of the company's voluntary recall".
A federal agency announcing a positive match to the public, despite all the evidence, and then retracting it within 24 hours...that must be a historical rarity.

The humiliation is not incidental. It is how Trump maintains control.
The episode also destroys accountability. Suppose another vehicle stop ends with an unarmed person dead. Who will own the decision?
Homan can say he initially supported a pause. Mullin can say he follows the president. ICE leadership can say the White House reversed its directive. Trump can blame the driver, protesters, Democrats or the media. In this likely scenario, everyone will exercise power, but no one will accept responsibility.
This is what governing by humiliation produces. Officials retain their titles but lose their authority. Agencies issue orders that remain valid only until the president encounters an unfavorable headline. Public statements become disposable because the person making them may be required to defend the opposite position tomorrow.
But we should stop calling such people powerful. A czar who can be overruled overnight on the central tactics of his own operation is not a czar. He is a spokesman wearing a costume. And a government in which armed federal agents receive operational direction through the president’s late-night social media posts is not projecting strength.
It is advertising that no one is truly in command.

In July 2025 we started a web project showing a map listing all of ICE's reported detention centers, with the number of detainees. This data was simply gathered from public records shared by ICE.
But since April 9th 2026, ICE stopped sharing this data, entirely.
The public can no longer know where ICE's facilities are, and how many people are currently detained. This is a dangerous transparency problem.

Digging into Jackson, I'm very suspicious of him & his GOP past, but he also seems closest to the "blue collar" background and progressive platform that Platner ran on so he's probably the most likely to excite the huge percentage to for some reason voted for Platner. So I get the choice, you couldn't install somebody who was deeply different than the guy who overwhelmingly won the nomination.
