The inter-American branch of a global #labor federation representing tens of millions of #workers issued a statement Monday condemning the #Trump administration’s intensifying economic assault on #Cuba and threats of regime change, calling such actions “war by other means” and violations of international law.
“They are incompatible with peace, the human right to dignity, and the principle of national sovereignty,” said PSI as the Trump administration blockade of oil imports fueled a worsening humanitarian crisis for the island nation, bringing rolling blackouts, straining hospitals, and causing shortages of food and other necessities.

This is a book that will remove any notion, any pretense that the #US is anything close to a #democracy or a democratic republic. The two-party political system is a fucking farce.
Choose between Grift 1 or Grift 2. Hard fascism or friendly, masked #fascism.
Both are parties that refuse to step away from #capitalism. One provides the illusion of being a better choice and liberals will come out of the woodwork to scream bloody murder if you dare suggest anything other than voting for it because the alternative is worse.
It's a fucking trap that has kept us from any actual progress for 100+ years.
But it's also a system in which middle class white folk have been very comfortable especially over the past 75 years. They benefit. Until they don't. More and more they don't.
This system cannot be reformed. Sometimes you have to start over.

#Cuba’s emergency measures should be seen as crucial test for the #BRICS bloc of developing nations, according to #HelenYaffe, a Cuba expert and professor of #LatinAmerica political economy at the University of Glasgow.
“This is probably the most important test now for BRICS … If BRICS cannot protect, defend and rally around a member, then what is it worth?” Yaffe told CNBC.
Cuba acquired “partner country” status of the BRICS group in January last year, bolstering its ties with the likes of #Brazil, #Russia and #China. Indeed, each of these three countries have sought to offer support to Cuba in recent days.
“The Cuban government is not going to submit,” Yaffe said. “The fact is, [the #US is] going to keep squeezing and the Cubans are going to keep resisting and there’s going to be a lot of unnecessary suffering.”

To the folks in Europe, the problem with the US goes much, MUCH deeper than Trump or the nearly half of the electorate that voted him into office twice. That's too simplistic.
Also, be careful, you're telling on yourself. How so?
The problem, the real substance of the problem, is not just the overt #fascism and criminality of the Trump regime and MAGA. The deeper problem is the white supremacy the US middle class. Along with that, the 2 party system, both parties complicit in decades of criminal violence internally and abroad. Then, #neoliberalism / #global capitalism, the core of which is based in the US.
Your trust of the US has long been a mistake and, worse, you've been a partner in #US criminal misconduct that everyone casually calls "Foreign Policy". #Trump, Biden, Obama, Bush, Clinton, Bush, Reagan, Carter... keep going. US foreign policy is rife with grift, violence and war profiteering.
And #Europe has been a partner all along.

See, here's the problem: the U.S. electorate voted for Donald Trump in 2016. We, the rest of the world, were then subjected to his capricious insanity for four years. At the end of 2020 they voted him out.
At that point we were willing to consider that this may have been a temporary loss of perspective.
But then they voted for him again.
This proves we cannot trust the USA. And it will take a LOT more than one election for the USA to regain our trust.
If 1% of criminals being undocumented immigrants is enough to justify concentration camps, what should we do with the fact that 98% of criminals are men?
Personally, I'm not a radical: a moratorium prohibiting men from being elected to any government position is enough. Let's try that for 10 years and see how it goes.

If you haven't been following this stuff for long, it might surprise you to know that "adding" 130,000 jobs in a month is a net loss. A jobs report like this would have been taken as a sign of a very poor economy even 15 years ago. The reason is that around 180,000 young people reach legal employment age each month in the US (Contra the admin's confabulations, this is how many US citizens reach employment age, and is not about immigration slowing). Adding 180,000 jobs would be treading water. Adding 130,000 is effectively 50,000 new people without jobs, a net loss by the spirit of this metric. There's also the reality that many of these estimates have been revised down by the BLS after more data came in.
Saying hiring is "picking up" and is "stronger than expected" is effectively saying "it could have been worse! 🤷 ". It's wild to see this positive spin on a very poor report.
It's extraordinarily fishy that the reported unemployment rate is not moving much in spite of these persistent and mounting job losses. I know why this is so please don't @ me a splanation. My point is that it, again, does not reflect the spirit of what this metric is meant to capture. It is wholly perverse now and should not be reported at all, let alone taken as a meaningful indicator.
The US economic numbers, when you push aside all the B.S., are recession-level. There's no "momentum" in the "labor market". There are not "green shoots" or "signs". The economic situation is bad.

On February 3, Aliya Rahman — a US citizen and resident of Minneapolis, #Minnesota — testified before a bicameral public forum at the Dirksen Senate Office Building in Washington, D.C.
The session on the violent tactics and use of force by agents of the Dept.of Homeland Security (DHS) was convened by #US senator Richard Blumenthal (Democrat, Connecticut) and US congressman Robert Garcia (Democrat, California). Other testimony came from Miramar Martinez, who was shot five times by #DHS agents in Chicago, Illinois, and from family members of #ReneeNicoleGood, who was murdered by an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (#ICE) agent in #Minneapolis on January 7.

In #Minneapolis and St. Paul, as well as the surrounding suburbs, tens of thousands of #immigrant families are relying on churches and mutual aid for food and financial support. People have not left their homes for weeks. Local schools have reverted to Covid-era online measures to support immigrant students too terrified to come to class. Those students who still attend in person are transported by #US-born neighbors and family friends. Campuses at all grade levels are patrolled by volunteers in fluorescent vests, an effort aimed at deterring federal agents’ practice of targeting parent pick-up and drop-off sites.
