I'm so sorry in advance for this long post, but this has been on my mind lately and I want others' thoughts on it.
I think I agree with the person I'm quoting, but I can't be sure because despite using it, I'm starting to hate "AI" as a term. It's not their fault that the definition has been mutilated, but I have to wonder if they're against AI in theory or in it's current form.
My stance is against any sort of "AI" that steals the work of others and either claims it as original, or uses it to modify someone's otherwise untainted creation. I assume that's what they're referring to, in which case I 100% agree.
That said, I'm unaware of any issues with machine learning itself when ethical and, of course, not based around widespread theft. So, OP, what do you think about using such programs to automate painfully tedious tasks? This wouldn't steal from others or remove any creativity from a work, only use a algorithm to, for instance, display rough subtitles as a placeholder for, or in absence of, proper ones. It could also be used as a starting point for a person to later refine. This kind of thing has been around for years, in the same way text-to-speech voices have helped the vision impaired and even ADHDers like myself (I have trouble reading long-ass academic essays).
Previous examples of this tech haven't caused harm, so if a system for generating subtitles is FLOSS and improves with usage (I think that's what machine learning means?), then it's a good thing, right? How do I distinguish between such software and the dystopian slop machines we're all rallying against?

5 years later senior employees start to leave there is no junior staff to promote and management panics.
Management does not want to spend money on new staff so they hire expensive contractors.
Contractors do a subpar job, charging 10x what an actual employee would cost (different budgets so its cool); and the company starts to go downhill and customers flee.
This starts a death spiral leading to either bankruptcy, acquisition, or restructuring.
The original management who approved the AI have all gone and cashed in their stock.
Just a guess at what is about to happen across the industry.

The submitter of the PR is responding to comments with responses that are obvious AI sludge, probably just cut and pasted from the chat window, and the beginning of every one of them is effusive praise of the sort only used-car salesmen, overt con artists, and LLMs can pull off multiple times in a row.
Assuming the author of the PR was using the same application for the comments as they did for the original PR, then, yes, coding-oriented LLMs are very much indeed doing the same sycophantic shit as ChatGPT 4o, just maybe dialed back a teensy bit.

#CharlieKim , one of four GOP candidates running for #Illinois District 11, had to remove a FAKE #AI video endorsement from "Donald Trump" off his campaign website this week.
Kim blamed his staff for posting it.
The video showed "Trump" standing in front of a portrait of Kim, saying that Kim would be "incredible" for Illinois. But a local newspaper was able to easily and quickly get verification from the White House that the video was not real.
White House staff told the local #KaneCounty paper that all video endorsements are posted to Donald's TrumpSocial account.
After the Kane County paper told Kim the video was fake, it was removed from his campaign site.
So either Kim is dishonest for posting LIES, or he is an idiot for believing Donald Trump ever even heard of him AND rude for not calling to thank the POTUS for his "endorsement."
It's good to know that someone as careless and (at best) easily fooled or (more likely) dishonest as this dimwit wants to represent my city of #AuroraIllinois and the nearby communities.

#AI #nature slop sites with incredibly many followers have discovered people's hunger for information and are suppressing facts. It's an attack on everything that people like me painstakingly create by hand and brain. I'm just waiting for my voice to be stolen for fake podcasts.

At the risk of being a bit gross: this is the software development version of peeing in the pool. If *one* person does it, it's gross but will probably go unnoticed. If you are unsure that an image is GenAI or real, here is a neat trick that you can do. Throw it into a reverse image search site and look for what the results are for the same picture. If the site shows a bunch of different images as the same, that’s a strong signal for GenAI. In these systems, an ml works, trained to find differences. Because GenAI images have a lot of technical characteristics in common, like JPEG artefacts, colour space, or texture smoothness, those look the same for these systems. This works across different GenAI models and software. My favourite tool for this check is the Yandex image search.

We just found out our AI has been making up analytics data for 3 months and I’m gonna throw up.
So we’ve been using an AI agent since November to answer leadership questions about metrics. It seemed amazing at first fast answers, detailed explanations, everyone loved it.
I just found out it’s been hallucinating numbers this entire time.
Our VP of sales made territory decisions based on data that didn’t exist. Our CFO showed the board a deck with fake insights. The AI was just inventing plausible sounding percentages.
I only caught it by accident when someone asked me to double check something. I started digging, and holy shit, it’s bad.
The numbers were sometimes from the wrong time periods, sometimes mixed up products and sometimes just completely made up. But it explained everything so confidently that nobody questioned it.
Now we have to review every Q4 decision. Legal is involved. People might get fired.
The worst part I raised concerns about needing validation in November and got told I was slowing down innovation.
Tell me someone else has dealt with this. How do you even fix something like this?

@atax1a but also before #AISlop become the almost only answer you get in any search engine nowadays. Tonight I tried to show my kids the little bugs that live in our faces, tried to search with #DuckDuckGo, and only got slop. I turned off AI results ("AI: hide") and got the same slop. I gave up.
