Where can I find the source code for the (PC-side) fastboot.c with Huawei custom OEM commands (`fastboot oem dump-emmc`)?

Android's fastboot is C++ and only implements OEM commands as string query-response, whereas `dump-emmc` will download a whole partition into a file on the PC (and will bail out on USB errors, which happen after dumping ~10-40GB out of 110GB with my phone)

En fait, on devrait l'appeller "timeline naturelle", puisqu'on lit vers le bas, et que la timeline se poursuit vers le bas aussi. C'est beaucoup plus naturel.
(Dommage que les clients web comme Phanpy n'aient pas un équivalent.)

My phone's incompatible with custom ROMs. With Google preventing app side loading, I'm slowly looking at replacing it. I'm torn b/c of frugality/ecology, I don't love replacing something that's not broken. (Though, I guess you could say Google broke it. I think I'll end up reselling the phone or gifting it to a friend.) Anyway, any recommendations on phones that should stay e/OS/ compatible for the foreseeable future?

I am all for alternatives. So while I support the petition to keep Android open, it is a petition and Google is still in control. Time will tell if they decide to compromise on their planned changes to reduce the openness of Android.

Gestern ein ungenutztes Fairphone4 (refurbished, ebay.de, 160€, ohne Gebrauchsspuren) mit /e/OS (auch als Murena) bekannt bespielt.

Es ist jedes mal eine Freude zu sehen, wie einfach und schnell das Bespielen mit google-freien Custom Roms geworden ist (im Vergleich zu den Anfängen mit CyanogenMod).

Ich spiele für Familie und Laien nur noch /e/OS aufgrund der Convience Vorteile auf.
Mir ist noch kein Nutzerfreundlicheres begegnet.

Alles klappt out-of-the-box, die Sicherheitsupdates kommen monatlich (in der Vergangenheit war das nicht so regelmäßig der Fall, daher hängt eOS noch ein schlechter Ruf bei den Security Ultras nach) und man muss keinerlei technisches Spezialwissen zur Nutzung haben.

The headline feature: Connection Proxy (Pro). Mobile MUD has always had one awful problem. Your phone drops the TCP connection the moment you lose signal or switch networks. The proxy wraps your connection in a WebSocket relay that keeps your MUD session alive for up to 30 minutes when your device loses connectivity. Walk through a dead zone, ride a buss, hop between WiFi and mobile. Come back and your session is right where you left it, buffered output and all. It even survives app kills. Automatic reconnection, keepalives, the works.

Device font picker: use any font installed on your device for game output, input, or UI. No more settling for generic Monospace.

Color customization: terminal background, terminal text, UI background, UI text. Named preset palettes, RGB sliders, hex input. High contrast mode for when you just want white on black. Every color picker is fully accessible — TalkBack announces "Navy" and "Coral", not "#1A1A2E".

Privacy policy: in-app, plain language, covers everything. The proxy and AI workers process data in memory only. Nothing is logged or stored server-side.

Plus bug fixes: shake-to-interrupt TTS is reliable again, Cosmic Rage CDN sounds play without delay, and several crashes fixed

I have the task to switch an family member from iOS to Android. It turns out there are quite some challenges.

One is the migration of Signal.
Sadly a migration including the message history is not simple if it is possible at all.
I really wonder what technical (?) reason prevents this? Is incompatibly local encryption? To risky file transfer? (and yes, I understand, if you enable the migration of messages to a different phone it would enable someone with temporary physical access to extract all your messages. The prevention of this is IMHO the reason that you are only allowed to use Signal on one phone)

I have no idea.

The possible "solutions" I found feel wrong. They either use a questionable third party tool or require you switching to Molly

Even if you have Signal Desktop in use it doesn't help 😞 (that would actually be a path, if I somehow could load the messages in the new Signal on Android installation)

If anyone has a different solution at hand please let me know

Aaand, I found another problem with this Android update. It re-enabled Wi-Fi calling as the preferred call method. The problem is that inside my own house there are places where the Wi-Fi signal isn't all that great, especially if a door is closed, but the cellular call quality is fine. So I only turn on Wi-Fi calling when I'm somewhere with sub-par cell service.
It's fixed now.

My Android phone just got the March feature drop, and it took me a half hour to go through the settings to find and disable all the changes they made that I don't want or care about. There's still one more thing I want to disable, but I haven't been able to find it yet in the settings.
Which I interpret to mean they really, really don't want me to disable it.

I’ve cleaned it every week with a homemade sanitizer spray solution. Lately it feels slimy right after a couple days.

Guess these cases aren’t meant to last long now. I remember years ago they would last forever. Still have some great ones in a drawer from older phones.

Pixel Watch 2 - Privacy Preserving Setup

I've been trying everything i could think of to make the watch work under GrapheneOS - Here is what i learned:

• Unpairing the Watch means factory resetting it.
• Every feature (literally everything) is google dependent (who would have thought.. i know)
• Pairing with your phone requires the "Pixel Watch" -App to be installed on your main profile (not work, not private space) alongside Google Play Services. There's no way around.

This is obviously unacceptable. So i did a bit of research and found a way that will not only be way more practical, it will also be private.

First i created a second user on my Phone, installed Google Play Services and the pixel watch app on it, logged in with a newly created google account and completed the setup.

I know some people use a chinese version of the WearOS app to bypass the google login. Since i don't want a chinese app to configure my watch, i didn't even try that.

After the watch was set up, i continued and:

• Deleted the user profile from which i connected the Watch
• Enabled wireless debugging
• Debloated the watch as good as possible (i will have to root the watch in the future to properly do it)
• Removed the Google account in the settings
• Cleared all Bluetooth preferences
• Enabled Bluetooth discovery
• Installed KDE Connect on it (not meant for WearOS but it does work barely)

The watch is now in a state where i can use it daily.

But i also want to make use of all those fancy quality-of-life features, like heartrate monitoring, sleep tracking and so on.

Now comes the fun part.

I've created a basic Kotlin project with both a mobile and WearOS app.

I will implement features like:

• Notification sync
• Call notifications
• Media Player Control
• Weather (openweathermap)
• Heartrate monitoring
• Sleep tracking
• Do not Distrurb Sync
• Homelab integrations (Nextcloud, Immich, Uptime Kuma, ..)
• And much more ..

The goal is to keep the watch offline, let the phone do the heavy lifting and communicate with a selfhosted database. I may even add a frontend and an API so people can integrate it for their needs.

Sounds good but why don't you just buy an #opensource #smartwatch like the #pinetime - You may ask.

Because as much as i hate to admit it, i love the design, the look and feel of the pixel watch. And i'm sure that i'm not the only one.

I also bought this one cheap for around 120€ #refurbished. So the value i can get out of it seems pretty good to me.

So much for today. I haven't even started tackling the Bluetooth connection yet 😅. Let's see how that turns out

Mein persönliches Highlight in CROSSY ROAD ist der Multiplayer. Im Grunde ist er genauso simpel, wie der Einzelspielermodus, nur, dass wir hier nicht nur für die Highscore spielen. Statdessen stehen Schadenfreude und ein teilweise herrlich unübersichtlicher Spielablauf im Mittelpunkt.

@Xtreix well, @GrapheneOS chose their requirements and they can happily design their own platform instead.

• I just think that their stubbornness makes them look like Stallmanist extremists to the point of being unbearable cringe and completely loosing the plot.
  • They are the antithesis to #Tails when it comes to #UserFriendly-ness and approachability for #Normies and #TechIlliterates.

To the point that it's cheaper to go black/red and teach that to people, even at the risk of inconvenience.

• I mean, in many juristictions one will have to do so anyway, but that's not tue point here…

I think #GrapheneOS prefer to "die on their hill" of "moral superiority" than fave the reality that 99% of people can't and won't blow $500 - $1000+ on a phone when any half-decent Netbook with @tails_live , @torproject and #4G or #5G modem can do the same.

• Espechally since the problems woth #MobilePhones and the underlying technology ain't fixable with an #Android-ROM.
  • Instead we need to foster a #SecurityCulture and proper #ITsec, #InfoSec, #OpSec & #ComSec.

Otherwise we'll see them fail the same way @signalapp did, which is eitger getting shut down (#EncroChat-style) or being uncovered as a controlled opposition / honeypot (like #ANØM aka. #OperationIronside aka. #OperationTrøjanShield)…

Da ich (sehr) davon überzeugt bin, dass das #Google #Pixel 7 Pro einen Großteil meiner Anforderungen an das Kamera-Setup abdecken wird, bin ich ein wenig abwesend, um zu schauen und am Testen, ob es nicht auch ein #Palm #Treo 650 Ersatz werden kann.

Dazu werde ich diverse Tools suchen und ausprobieren, die das #Haushaltsbuch, die #Einkaufsliste etc. auf dem #Android ersetzen sollen. Voraussetzung ist bei allen Programmen eine einfache (!) Synchronisation zwischen dem PC und dem Handy.

Das kann zwar ein wenig dauern, aber es wäre schon schön, wenn ich mich nur noch um ein einziges Device (Ladezustand etc.) kümmern bräuchte und nur noch ganz selten die #Canon EOS 550D mitnehmen müsste.

Das 18–270-mm-Objektiv wird das Pixel trotz 5-fachem optischen Zoom ganz sicher nicht ersetzen können.

Ich bin dann wahrscheinlich also erst mit den neuen Fotos hier wieder online. 😀

This "AI powered" microphone jammer is wishful thinking at best, hence the preorder pricetag. I have a lot of experience with nUHF trackers and the excellent @kaputnikGo already released the Pilfershush app for #Android that does active (and passive) ultrasonic jamming, as well as another IoT project in the wild. Smart speakers like #Alexa use MEMS and will be quite difficult to jam without radio jamming, not audio jamming, which AFAIK will not be approved in a consumer device (at least in US).

It's really something that my e-reader has better and more usable scrollbars than most desktop interfaces (Windows, MacOS, and Gnome). :/

The scrollbar is thin, but the grabbable region is large (kind of like the default in KDE), and easy to manipulate directly with your finger. This is actually better than #iOS' implementation, and many #Android apps.
