Kleines Fediverse-Wunder des Tages: Ich folge jemandem auf Mastodon, der auf einer völlig anderen Instanz ist, und es funktioniert einfach. Kein Konzern dazwischen, keine Algorithmus-Magie, nur zwei Server die miteinander reden wie erwachsene Maschinen. Hell, I'm pretty sure you could even cross post to #truthsocial (maybe there are some Q-anon followers who also enjoy discussing #transit ). Fediverse is basically "E-mail" but for social media. Just like your @gmail account can send an e-mail to @yahoo @outlook @proton @tuta and anyone else. Your @fediverse account can be shown on any social media platforms. Mastodon is the most famous. Like gmail is. so mine is evoletah@mastodon.social I also use Facebook's Threads social media account. I have evoletah@threads.social (but this is private, so you won't find it if you learn for it.) Same for Bluesky social media app! Basically, now using threads app, I can find people using Threads & Mastodon & Bluesky. Same on the Mastodon social media app. It's basically like instagram, facebook, twitter. Type style. But instead of needing 3 accounts, you can just have one, and have people "follow" you via any app! Just like having 1 gmail account, all your friends using ANY e-mail can message you. You can see Any friends social media account with Fediverse. This is not popular, cause companies don't seem interested and people lack awareness, that's all. (Ask follow up questions, happy to explain more if needed)

#PawFed is a project close to my heart. It's a collaborative map for animal welfare that bridges the #Fediverse and #OpenStreetMap.

The idea: mention @PawFed from your Mastodon account with hashtags and a location, and your report appears on the map. No signup, no app, just your existing Fediverse account.
It's not perfect yet, but the foundation is there. I will publish the source code soon under AGPL.

2. i18n非常不错，支持简体繁体中文
3. 支持自定义字体，而且页面配色非常非常多（我这里只用了亮色）

5. 发帖不像发帖而像聊天（发帖会在右下角打开一个“聊天框”？）
6. 有功能：圈子（但是人太少了也没开启联邦，不好测试，（官方说是圈子是lists of people（例如，“本地朋友”、“团队”、“互助团队”）。每个圈子都有自己的动态，包含成员的帖子。）

不便：

1. Add an external account这里好像有bug？我输入@admin@mstdn.feddit.social @admin@moe.pub https://moe.pub/@admin 都显示无效
2. 右上角按钮竟然不是返回首页而是返回上一个页面？有点反人类了（我是不是人啊？我是不是人啊？）

For example, the Misskey family, which includes IceShrimp, Misskey, Foundkey, Sharkey and so on; there, you can organise your bookmarks into folders

You can create as many of these folders as you need.

30.12.2025 was my last attempt to join the #fediverse #mastodon. My previous tries failed. All of them. The reason?

Myself! I was an idiot, and the environment here was harsh enough for idiots to blame themselves.
But this time it's love. I asked for help in various ways and every time I was met with amazing tips.

Mastodon is 100% the early days of social media all over. Some of you will already be familiar with this story.

My weather station (a very nice Netatmo that has served very well) crapped out after nearly 10 years of excellent service. I asked for recommendations here for a new station that would play nicely with #HomeAssistant, and hopefully, also HomeKit. I received *many* recommendations, with Ecowitt (and the brands it manufactures for) taking the lead.

A connection on here offered me their *unopened* Ecowitt weather station for a very generous price. It arrived yesterday, and I set it up, and it's already doing a great job. Works offline, talks to Home Assistant without any problems. I just need to do a couple of bits of configuration jiggery-pokery and it will pass data to HomeKit.

This is very much how things were when I first joined Twitter in 2007. In spite of attempts at #enshittification of everything, the #fediverse is putting up a good fight.

Please #correct me if I'm #wrong but I seem to #recall there being less than 40000 federated #server accounts 3 days ago. Now that number has on my #Mastodon instance jumped to over 70000 and growing. This #fediverse is growing rapidly. And honestly, I'm pleasantly surprised due to #relay #traffic sources picking up quite substantially.

You seem to be on a single-user host via Namecheap

Assuming you're posting using TCP/IP, each packet you send out to the Fediverse requires an ACK packet in return before it continues, and most transactions involve scores of packets

Have you used something like Wireshark to look at exactly what you're sending out and receiving?

I doubt you're being DDoSsed so much as your very small instance is suddenly talking to tens of thousands of other instances, each one of which is trying to talk back to you all at once

Update about slow game post federating

Recently, when I post the new #HashTagGames post at 9PM est, it has taken 15 minutes or longer for all instances on the #Fediverse. I determined the reason why is because my #ActivityPub #WordPress enabled site is getting #DDoS due to the sheer number of instances trying to communicate with us when the game goes out.

I have taken some measures to prevent this and tonight we will see how it goes. If it is still slow and we are under DDoS attacks, I will continue to tweak things.

Just know, the game is going out on time, the post should arrive shortly each evening, and I will try to get this resolved one way or another.

I was just checking our PeerTube. I searched for "John Brown's Body", and did find a video of the Pete Seeger rendition.

PeerTube is the equivalent to YouTube on the Fediverse.

Some years ago I decided to move away from proprietary social media options due to concerns about their increasing tracking and monetarisation of their platforms. So, I set up accounts in Diaspora, Friendica, Lemmy, and Mastodon.

Diaspora was okay, but not much was happening there. I quite liked Friendica, but then the instance I was on suddenly pulled the plug. I liked Lemmy, but, unlike Reddit, there was no way to post videos.

I like taking news videos and getting relevant unedited segments from them (interviews with left leaning politicians in Canada often aren't highlighted and, thus, can't be found elsewhere). So I thought PeerTube would be the answer. However, most of the instance servers baulked at the idea of posting an unedited clip from the news, feeling it's a grave copyright infringement. News is shocking, whereas if I made asinine videos (like, of me eating marbles or something), that would be okay.

However, I did find one instance that would allow it, stating I could claim "fair use". But, usually after posting I'd have to wait a week for the moderators to approve it. And that instance lately is warning users that money constraints may have lead to its shutdown.

It's too bad. I'd like to find a YouTube alternative.

Earth and Sky I by Lisa S. The latest episode of the Europeans podcast (@europeanspodcast@mastodon.social) features a really nice interview with Eugen Rochko (aka “Europe’s anti-Elon") where he goes into his thoughts about Mastodon, the Fediverse, and his own position in all of it. It’s a really interesting discussion, and an excellent example of how one can talk to people about the Fediverse without making it sound incredibly intimidating.
