I first installed an XMPP server back when it was Jabber over 20 years ago, and I remember chatting to people on Google Talk, before they decided to do their own thing. Having just installed Prosody (#XMPP) and Tuwunel (#Matrix) servers, both of which are excellent, I am personally of the opinion that XMPP is a lot more sensible.

And one more music app before I switch gears: @violexene’s Jellify. This is a cross-platform app, free and open source, with super fast development, and a super fast UX.

It’s a joy to use and while I’m one of those crazy people who adores Liquid Glass, if you don’t (or you’re on Android) it would be my number one recommendation for you. In fact I’ve already shared it with several friends.

OK I need to seriously figure out a better way to stay organized on both projects and daily/weekly/monthly tasks at work.

                  • I have my trusty daily notes notebook that combines what I know I need to do that day (and track notes and other small things) but I'm not having much luck staying on top of the work stuff - especially work projects that take me away for a week or so then I have time to jump into it.

                  • I think I'm slowly navigating to implementing a servicedesk-like ticketing system where I can input and track this.

                  • What has worked for others?

                    • If a ticketing system should I just opt for my $WORK one or implement my own? Self-hosted?
                    • I even struggle with keeping this in a Spreadsheet because I think it is so easy to ignore it.

As usual, I made another program which was written in the Go programming language and it’s called Kagami, where it’s inspired from the main character with the same name, Kagami Hiiragi from an anime titled “Lucky Star”. The program itself lets you make your own customised Ubuntu-based ISOs and focus on vanilla experience with blocking snapd by default and more customisable.with JSON config that was written on examples.

The documentation for the program will be more available soon. Also, this program is licensed under GNU GPL v2.0 license and free for everyone. You can help me contribute for more improvement and feel free to contact me regarding this program. Thank you!

FosseryWeb progress report (1/2) [SENSITIVE CONTENT]

I got enough of AI constantly messing up the cheatsheet conversion from Markdown to HTML, producing inconsistent results despite providing a massive, detailed prompt which tells exactly how to do things. It frickin ignores one or two instructions randomly, and rewrites the text of the cheatsheet regardless of explicitly telling it not to do so. I hate when an AI wants to outsmart me lmao.
I looked at some already available AI-free Markdown converters like Pandoc and Md2html.py but they are too limited for this usecase, they don't let to customize how to convert individual Markdown elements, customize boilerplate, etc, so I decided to write my own script, which will be tailored specifically to FosseryWeb's codebase. It will also be written with future contributors in mind. It will prompt for FosseryWeb local repo directory, cheatsheet Markdown file, and meta description (for link previews on external sites), then automatically get the directory where the Markdown file is stored (if it's saved in the right directory), and where the HTML file should be saved. The FosseryWeb repo path will also be saved to a config file, so it doesn't need to be typed out each time, will be shown as default option...

This is "Open Washing." They are co-opting the term to earn the community's goodwill for marketing without actually respecting the four freedoms.

Skype (proprietært) og MySQL (GPL) hives frem som to eksempler på software, hvis skæbne blev vidt forskellig med europæiske suverænitetsbriller på. Kodens licens afgjorde udfaldet. Lad det være cliffhangeren...

This move is not about a lack of features but a calculated push for digital sovereignty. By 2027, every government department in France will communicate via this sovereign stack, ensuring that sensitive data remains subject to European law. The shift addresses a growing concern that relying on foreign cloud giants creates a strategic vulnerability. France is opting for an open-source architecture built on Django and React, hosted on the domestic Outscale cloud. This infrastructure removes the risk of external service disruptions while fostering a local tech ecosystem.

I have officially deleted my Amazon account and cut ties with their ecosystem entirely. For a long time, the convenience of Prime felt like a necessary evil, especially since they have a warehouse in my city and can do same day shipping. But I can no longer reconcile the big tech giant's behavior with the values I promote at Terminal Tilt. As a privacy advocate and FOSS supporter, continuing to feed the machine feels increasingly hypocritical.

Ethically, their treatment of labor is indefensible. Between the terrible warehouse conditions and the dark patterns designed to make canceling subscriptions nearly impossible, it is clear they view both employees and customers as numbers to be exploited, with contempt. Their anti-competitive practices have done irreparable harm to small businesses and independent creators who are forced to play in a rigged sandbox.

As an FSF and EFF member, I believe privacy is a fundamental right. Amazon's business model relies on massive data harvesting and a huge surveillance network that I simply do not want to be a part of. Deleting my account is my way of reclaiming my digital sovereignty and refusing to let my personal data be a product in their inventory.

The change also affects how I handle Terminal Tilt going forward. I am officially ending the use of Amazon affiliate links for the channel. While the links are a standard revenue stream for most creators, I refuse to track my audience into the Amazon ecosystem just for a small commission. I would rather the channel grow slower and more honestly than profit from a company that actively works against user freedom. Convenience is the enemy of sovereignty.

When I review products now, whether it is the security keys from @nitrokey , @yubico , and Token2 or open source hardware, I will provide links to direct manufacturers or ethical, privacy-respecting retailers instead. Convenience should never be the primary metric for our choices.

If you want to support my work on Linux, privacy, and the movement, I encourage you to use my LiberaPay or Ko-Fi links. * Created a brand new MUD client that can even use some sound packs from Windows clients, inside Emacs, of course working with Emacspeak, that works in Termux.
                                                                                                                                    * Got XFCE running with Orca and AT-SPI support. In Termux using Termux-x11.
                                                                                                                                    * Got the beginnings of the Action RPG Flare working with menus speaking and rudamentary pathfinding. In Termux.
                                                                                                                                    * Made Emacspeak helpers to get Telega and Mastodon-mode (more or less) accessible with Emacspeak, since Inafore went down.

None of this, absolutely none of it, would have happened without AI. Sighted people would not have done this. There aren't enough blind programmers interested in Android, or Linux, or Termux specifically, to do any of this. And even if AI disappears tomorrow, all this is open source, and once blind programmers and nerds get into Android, it'll be there waiting.

Instead, AI will continue, my weekly Codex limit will reset tomorrow at 1 PM, and I'll continue working on stuff.

And no, I don't one-prompt things. I tell it to look at, for example, the Emacspeak project directory, so it gets context full of how Emacspeak advises packages. Then I tell it to look at, for example, Mastodon-mode. This was the hardest, since it appears Mastodon-mode grabs the webpages and rangles them into buffers. And I don't blame the author if that's how things actually work. That's beside the point though. I tell it to make n and p speak the next/previous toot. It took a while to get that working. And then I test it. Then I tell it to have "f" and "b" ETC. speak "favorited" and "boosted" and so on. You really have to test the stuff you make.

But in the end, I don't care about the code. I care that I can use, for example, Mastodon-mode. And AI made that happen for me, in like an hour.

                                                                                                                                      AodeRelay boosted

Since I do not have the knowledge to write a theme myself l, I turn to and instructed it to write a theme from scratch, with minimal styling and no JS at all. It now works locally and I probably will switch to it soon after more tests. I hope using a minimal theme will make it less likely to break with future Hugo updates

Logseq is great but has a lot of bloat that I don't need for simple writing (like my scripts). I tried MarkText and I enjoy it, but I just learned that it hasn't been updated in over a year with little to no activity on their github, which is a concern for security and longevity.

Essentially to migrate from a BDFL model to a more flat-structured democratic organisation.

We are discussing how to restructure so that it can continue to scale up and be a truly community-run project.

We have some idea of how co-ops like Igalia do this, but we have a lot of differences (like being largely volunteer run and having very different goals) which leave us with a lot of unknowns.

To give an example of the kind of structure we're thinking of (by no means final, there hasn't been any broad agreement on a new structure yet):

We have the relevant pieces in place to form an assembly (everyone listed on postmarketos.org/team/ ) which could then democratically form teams and delegate responsibilities to them (e.g. finance/budget, technical policy-making, maintainers for various OS components).

The assembly would then also be responsible for deciding on focus areas and long term goals for the project (e.g. improving reliability, building a production-ready immutable version of the distro)

We could then form working groups to enable cross-team collaboration to move towards our specific goals.

Currently we lack a lot of understanding of the potential implications of something like this, how we can ensure the project doesn't get hijacked, that we don't drift too far from our mission statement, etc etc...

If you have a background in sociology and/or relevant experience from other projects then I would love to reach out and be able to discuss this in more detail!
