Having read numerous articles about the brand new Apple Macbook Neo and I can't help but think about the economies of scale. They're reusing A18 Pro silicon (which is a smartphone SoC) for a desktop OS, Apple is subsidizing their research & development and advanced wafer costs across millions of iPhones and entry-level laptops.

This pricing removes the previous economic barriers for standard, high-volume personal computers in a way Dell or HP haven't been quite able to do so far.

I think it doesn't threaten the ThinkPad or heavy-duty workstations per se, but it absolutely wrecks the value proposition of premium chromebooks and low-end windows ARM machines.

Anyone remember Unknown Orbit?

I reviewed thousands of iOS games on TouchArcade way back when, and one of my favorites of all time was Exbleative's Unknown Orbit, which was basically Tiny Wings .. in 3D .. in space. It was awesome.

Last night the Steam store put a game called Exo One in front of me. In the preview, it looked something like Tiny Wings .. in 3D .. in space. It's 70% off in the Steam store for a few days (currently $5), so I gave it a go.

"A strange signal... an alien craft... an interplanetary, gravity-defying journey through space and time."

Long story short, it's from Exbleative and appears to be a massive evolution of Unknown Orbit (for PC and Xbox), set on strange, eerie worlds and with a mysterious storyline to unravel.

Having been such a fan of the earlier iOS title, I am thrilled to have found this and am having a great time exploring this universe.

"A mass hacking campaign targeting iPhone users in Ukraine and China used tools that were likely designed by U.S. military contractor L3Harris, TechCrunch has learned. The tools, which were intended for Western spies, wound up in the hands of various hacking groups, including Russian government spooks and Chinese cybercriminals.

Last week, Google revealed that over the course of 2025 it discovered that a sophisticated iPhone-hacking toolkit had been used in a series of global attacks. The toolkit, dubbed “Coruna” by its original developer, was made of 23 different components first used “in highly targeted operations” by an unnamed government customer of an unspecified “surveillance vendor.” It was then used by Russian government spies against a limited number of Ukrainians and finally by Chinese cybercriminals “in broad-scale” campaigns with the goal of stealing money and cryptocurrency.

Researchers at mobile cybersecurity company iVerify, which independently analyzed Coruna, said they believed it may have been originally built by a company that sold it to the U.S. government.

Two former employees of government contractor L3Harris told TechCrunch that Coruna was, at least in part, developed by the company’s hacking and surveillance tech division, Trenchant. The two former employees both had knowledge of the company’s iPhone hacking tools. Both spoke on condition of anonymity because they weren’t authorized to talk about their work for the company."

Why do these silicone phone cases get so grimy after a year?

I’ve cleaned it every week with a homemade sanitizer spray solution. Lately it feels slimy right after a couple days.

Guess these cases aren’t meant to last long now. I remember years ago they would last forever. Still have some great ones in a drawer from older phones.

Seit einer Weile sieht es aber so aus wie auf dem zweiten Bild: nur Wahl zwischen Video und Foto sowie Zoom, 1:1 und Weitwinkel. Warum auch immer.

Mein größter SM-Fehler war es, eine Hobby-Gruppe bei #Facebook zu starten. Wie der Zauberlehrling mit den Besen werde ich das nicht mehr los. Aber auch da poste ich oft nur noch Links. Für heute habe ich mir #Youtube vor genommen. Hochladen ist #dudit, aber das Ansehen! Das ist richtig fies, die Timeline schafft es immer mal wieder, mich zu fesseln. Am Besten, es gibt keine Grund Youtube zu starten. Und da sind wir bei der Follow-Klocke. Wenn die Videos nun mal sonst nirgends zu sehen sind? Auf dem iPad gibt es auch keine Werbefreimach-App.

Bei meinen Gefolgten sind einige aus den Öffentlichen, die doch gefälligst ihr Material in der Mediathek ablegen sollten. Da fehlt dann wieder die "Folgen-App”. Sollte technisch möglich sein, muß nur mal einer machen |-)

Tonight I had to do a few things on my wife’s iPhone 13 Pro Max (which I used for two years, from 2021 to 2023). I really struggled to read the text, especially in the browser. Has something changed with the recent versions of iOS, or has my eyesight worsened that much in two years? A friend in her forties one spent a day in tears on the phone to her mobile phone company because she'd got a good deal on an iPhone 4 plus a year's airtime and, before the contract started, the iPhone 5 had been launched. She felt it was only fair that she get an #iPhone 5, because that was now the current model. In one day, because of one marketing event, the highly covetable, status-conferring iPhone 4 had become a worthless piece of obsolete junk, and only the iPhone 5 would do.

That experience did a lot to put me off the #Apple ecosystem: not because iPhones aren't lovely devices (they are) but because of the hold they have over many of their users. I just don't want to feel that strongly about a telephone or the company that makes it.

If you block me or respond angrily in defence of Apple, you'll be making my point for me (and you should perhaps reevaluate your relationship with technology).

iphone 16 last year.. always on me, and i could easily use a collection of camera apps (e.g. halide, zerocam, project indigo) to take good photos in like any condition.

Back on #Android after a few years with iphone. I bought the privacy schtick at the time and kinda hate Google, but nobody's hands are clean in this game. The hardware was nice but the software is limiting, awkward, and riddled with bugs if you even think about stepping out of that ecosystem.

I moved from #iphone 15 pro to a #Samsung s25. The iphone speaker was noticeably better, face ID and apple pay were great too. Otherwise the s25 is much more for me. Better navigation, keyboards, browsers, password integrations, notifications, and a whole lot more to tinker with.

Went into the walled garden but managed to make it back out again.

I compare my iPhone to my mum’s / pics online and seriously the Liquid Glass feels much less transparent? I’ve not even got it on tinted… updating to iOS 26.2 rn tho and hoping it’s something weird with 26.1…

Erscheint mir erstmal unlogisch/verwirrend weil ja sonst auch alles synchronisiert wird. Kann man aber ggf. auch zum Vorteil nutzen - tut das jemand? Getrennte Karten auf Phone und Watch? 🤔

@rl_dane Wow, what a completely unhinged and unmitigated nightmare. Perhaps this person's only recourse is to get a lawyer.

This is one helluva damning reason to not use #Apple and this further highlights their "walled garden" is a prison which the customer funds with their money and data.

And yes, I do use a #Mac but it is limited strictly to music production in a studio. For everything else it's #Debian and #FreeBSD. I do not store *anything* in #iCloud and I refuse to buy an #iPhone.

I just updated my iPhone SE 2020 to IOS 26. For the record, I am a totally blind Voiceover user. At any rate, it forced me to create a passcode and wouldn't let me select an option not to do so. Then, when I was able to log into the phone and go to the section that would allow me to turn the passcode off, it asked for my passcode. I entered it. Then, it asked for the password for my account. I plugged in my keyboard via the adapter and although it seemed to let me enter the text box, no matter what I did, it wouldn't accept my keystrokes for the password. It just made a sound when I tried to type, as if I weren't in the field. I have done this before with this same setup. All other functions worked. I then tried it with my bluetooth keyboard with the same result. I do not use a touchscreen to type. I always keep my phone free of passcodes and touch id, because I wouldn't be in a situation where I would need either. Finally, I was able to do it using the touchscreen, by going over every single letter, until I found the one I wanted, pressing it, then repeating the cycle for all of the characters of my password, plus having to switch to numbers. Has external keyboard accessibility been lost in this version of IOS? I must assume that I won't be able to enter my iCloud (not that I use it) or anything else that requires my Apple password normally either. If I am wrong, please tell me how I can fix this horrible problem!

I am thinking of getting an SE 2022 (I don't want anything newer since I don't want a large phone). Perhaps, I should ensure that it's running IOS 18. If so, what was the last itteration of it? Was it 18.5?
