My own understanding of the DSM grew from dealing with anti-trans activists who would try to use the DSM as a cudgel against actual people.

This is perhaps why I find to be such an interesting DSM category: I have never yet seen anyone campaigning against social inclusion of people who have ED, or denying them access to , higher , , , or even ownership.

Indeed, for ED is openly marketed to the public at large, even here in Canada (*hums a few bars from the famous , Good Morning! commercial).

Yet when anything terrible happens that may or does involve a trans person, it seems that the very fact of trans being within the DSM is accepted both as evidence of guilt but also the reason for the terrible thing in the first place. 🙄

The story is in the walk‑back: what was trumpeted as 584,000 new jobs in 2025 has now been cut down to just 181,000 for the entire year.

CNN is reporting "Hiring picked up as 2026 kicked into gear, with the US economy adding a stronger-than-expected 130,000 jobs last month"

If you haven't been following this stuff for long, it might surprise you to know that "adding" 130,000 jobs in a month is a net loss. A jobs report like this would have been taken as a sign of a very poor economy even 15 years ago. The reason is that around 180,000 young people reach legal employment age each month in the US (Contra the admin's confabulations, this is how many US citizens reach employment age, and is not about immigration slowing). Adding 180,000 jobs would be treading water. Adding 130,000 is effectively 50,000 new people without jobs, a net loss by the spirit of this metric. There's also the reality that many of these estimates have been revised down by the BLS after more data came in.

Saying hiring is "picking up" and is "stronger than expected" is effectively saying "it could have been worse! 🤷 ". It's wild to see this positive spin on a very poor report.

It's extraordinarily fishy that the reported unemployment rate is not moving much in spite of these persistent and mounting job losses. I know why this is so please don't @ me a splanation. My point is that it, again, does not reflect the spirit of what this metric is meant to capture. It is wholly perverse now and should not be reported at all, let alone taken as a meaningful indicator.

The US economic numbers, when you push aside all the B.S., are recession-level. There's no "momentum" in the "labor market". There are not "green shoots" or "signs". The economic situation is bad.

When this regime 'under which everything not prohibited is compulsory' inevitably fails to deliver a perfect society, things turn violent, both in the country’s internal struggles and in its conflicts with other powers. 1. DOGE went down in disgrace.

                                                                                                          3. Trump’s federal troop deployment was kneecapped.

                                                                                                          4. Censorship and persecution of Trump’s enemies are failing.

When I moved from Seattle, Washington to Lincoln City, Oregon, I did a couple of business related things: I re-licensed my business in Oregon, and I joined the Lincoln City Chamber of Commerce as a way of getting known in the community. A couple of years later when I moved back to the Seattle area, I thought, “I should probably join the Chamber here,” but I never did. And now I’m glad I didn’t re-associate with the Chamber, because I just randomly learned something: the US Chamber of Commerce (of which the local Chambers are members) opposed the FTC’s rule banning non-compete agreements.

                                                                                                            To hell with non-compete agreements.

The last time I signed a non-compete agreement was in 1983. When I left that company 12 years later I had to hire an attorney to advise me about my next job. It turned out the non-compete clause was toothless, but I had to pay money to find that out. I made the decision then that I’d never sign another non-compete. They were placed in front of me, mind you, as part of the on-boarding process, but I always politely said, “I don’t sign non-competes,” and THEY HIRED ME ANYWAY.

I never lost a job by refusing to sign a non-compete. (Your mileage may vary).

And now that I know the US Chamber of Commerce is in favor of companies having the right to enforce non-compete agreements, I don’t want to be affiliated with them.

I reserve the right to work anywhere, anytime, for anyone. It’s my life, not yours. I sign non-disclosure agreements all the time, but non-competes, never. You can keep your secrets – but my knowledge, experience, and skills are mine, and fully transferable.

Jay is IT person and when looking at the coworker monitor, he yells "NO," when asked, "JAY, CAN I INSTALL ...?"

Jay walks away from a female coworker who says, "I THINK MY COMPUTER NEEDS ....," to which he replies, "IT DOESN'T."

Another coworker shouts, "HEY! WHY'S MY COMPUTER BROKEN AGAIN?" Jay yells back, "BECAUSE YOU DOWNLOAD DUMB SHIT."

Later, Jay is relaxing on a couch playing video games. Another person asks him, "HOW WAS WORK?" Jay, holding a bottle, smiles and replies, "AWESOME."
