buc.ci is a Fediverse instance that uses the ActivityPub protocol. In other words, users at this host can communicate with people that use software like Mastodon, Pleroma, Friendica, etc. all around the world.
This server runs the snac software and there is no automatic sign-up process.
So I have a habit of running the latest versions of #ChromeCanary and #FirefoxNightly just because I don't want to fall behind on #SecurityUpdates, to test for #compatibility and other issues and to sstay ahead of any #vulnerabilities in my #browser because I store a lot of #passwords locally in my profiles among other information that I don't #sync online.
Well, lately, every time the browser updates, I keep having to #SignIn to different services like #ChatGPT #Google for #GMail and #Microsoft #Outlook etc.
Nothing changed in my #configuration and I didn't install any #extensions that I know of which would do this.
Ever since #Windows #11 version #29550 came out, this has been a frequent occurrence.
Coincidence?
One day, without warning, Microsoft Outlook said it needed to be an Android device administrator if I wanted to keep checking my work email on my lunch break. That would have enabled my employer to factory-reset my device at any time:

That was the moment I uninstalled #Outlook.
. #DigitaleSouveränität geht anders! 🤦♂️

#Outlook has had this capability forever, but it only works under a very particular set of circumstances. You're almost always better off with a "Delay Send" rule that gives you a chance to cancel the send, rather than trying to pull it back later.

Alligevel lidt vemodigt. #danmarkskifter #byzelected #microsoft #outlook
I like how in “new” Outlook my myriad of rules are now applied after the email
hits my inbox instead of in process.
Now I frequently get email notifications and in the seconds it takes for me to look at Outlook that email is now gone, having been moved to its folder.
My rules are setup to basically to not touch emails directly to me from coworkers and alerts that I need to see on my phone/watch. All other emails should just silently be routed to their appropriate folder when I can view or search for them if I need to.
Now I get notifications all day long for random marketing emails that I never received previously.
More on Reactions
At the risk of seeming obsessed, I discovered more reaction weirdness in Teams and Outlook
I have been using Outlook for literal decades. Microsoft has managed to botch #NewOutlook so bad, that I'm now at the stage of not trusting it will do anything I want it to. I canceled a meeting series last week. It's back. I canceled it again today, and now folks are somehow ACCEPTING the cancellation? 30% AI code, indeed. Make it make sense! (This is at work, I have no choice)
Quick Test - Outlook Reactions
Saw a question on a mailing list recently that made me curious

Stop posting affiliation links with hashtags #proton and #protonmail please. This is not what hashtags are for. People who subscribed or are searching for them are already aware that Proton Mail exists and most likely they already made their minds about it a while ago.
If you want to convince new people then use something like #outlook or #gmail, or just #email PLEASE 🙏
Jesus, my home feed exploded today.
#Microsoft update for #Windows KB5074109 killed millions of #Outlook email clients (including me) worldwide and they are doing nothing about it.
Who need a serious virus when you have got Microsoft?
Maybe they accidentally patched the wrong servers...

An exchange with Outlook-suffering colleagues reminded me of my 2011 rant which is sadly still relevant, "The Problem Isn't Email, It's Microsoft Exchange" https://nxdomain.no/~peter/the_problem_isnt_email_its_microsoft_exchange.html #email #outlook #exchange #uxfail #standardswhatstandards

A colleague is stuck with a time bomb: the outlook account will close at the end of the month, and emails are only sync locally for the last 180 days.
But, the "File - Export" menu command is greyed out. The right-click and "forward" is also greyed out when selecting more than 3 or 4 emails.
Available is the account either online on a browser, or also on a MacOS desktop.
Is there any way to export all emails as an .mbox or as individual .eml files? Or to forward them all?
At the moment, all we could do is search month by month, select all for the month, and print to PDF. Generates ~50 MB PDF files without images and without attachments, but it's better than nothing.

Microsoft rush to add AI to everything they have failed or ignored making existing products better.
As I am forced to use #O365 here is my wish list for enhancements.
1. The ability to schedule a follow up meeting from an existing meeting in Calendar without having to recreate the whole invite from scratch.
2. Add notes to emails. We have a shared mailbox and I would love the ability to add notes to a email for my colleagues or keep a note on the email for later reference.
3. Outlook client that has ZERO problems updating messages. My inbox is not even that full and the client hangs when updating folders and messages. It is the bane of my existence.
Perhaps this is a little Xmas/New Year present for some of you?
For the past year or so, I have been listening a lot to #Outlook on the #BBCworldservice: “True storis of ordinary people and the extraordinary things that have shaped their lives”. It gives such wisdom, inspiration and human connection, and really helps putting your own little woes in perspective. Just now I listened to Calvin Duncan’s story and would like you all to hear it, too!

What kind of BS, confusing, piss poor designed-by-AI crap is this? Send anyway? Why wouldn't I? You told me it's OK!
