@mia @snacks well, the probkem is that YouTube basically monopolized the field so unless you want to #paywall stuff directly or indirectly it's gonna be hard to #SelfHost stuff without going full #P2P and force everyone to use #BitTorrent and/or #IPFS to watch content.

Anyone know if there's an "Anna's Archive"-type free repository for standards documents, like from UL, CSA, IEC, ISO, etc? You know, the ones that are mostly developed with public subsidies but then are paywalled at absolutely ludicrous prices that mean only big companies can actually get access to them?

Searching a bit didn't find anything for me.

Asking for a friend ... 😃

• Sony needed to keep market share and #Xbox really delivered #ConsoleMultiplayer that was frictionless (beyond the #paywall).

Also #Sony scrapped the #FreeMultiplayer later in the #PS3 lifecycle by paywalling #PSN too.

• Obviously #Microsift knew that it's #Multiplayer worked good and that they could charge for it.

Plus it did make it longterm sustainable because it does incur costs that would've to be paid and Sony did subsidize their service with ~ $5 more in #licensing fees per full-price AAA retail disc game.

• Not to mention the PS3 was pushed to win & end the #FormatWar for #bluray which Microsoft just partially sabotaged with the #HDDVD addon so #Streaming (via #Netflix) would win.

are any Verge articles free anymore? for me whenever I click any of them it tells me to subscribe. reader mode on iOS Safari hides the popups and lets me read the content but otherwise I don’t remember it all being paywalled?
