I had a conversation with a friend who lives in Australia today. He said that his family members with teenage kids are saying that it’s ‘business as usual’ for Australian teens on social media. If you don't know the saga of #Afroman I suggest you settle in on YouTube for some fun history videos. The Cincinnati area rapper filled his home with security cameras. When he was wrongfully raided because of a bad warrant he used the footage to make some hilarious music videos, with topics such as the police officer that seems to want to raid Afroman's fridge. Not that "Will You Help Me Repair My Door?" isn't a banger, but the surveillance footage really makes these videos what they are. Of course, the cops had nothing to charge him with and are now pissed that he embarrassed them.

I've read the warrant, by the way. The cops found out he used to rap a song about the evils of drug abuse so they gambled that he'd be in that industry. The warrant was lies, specualtion, and a bad faith fishing expedition.

I feel like there is a real desire for better tech out there.

The reason I am saying this is that I would never have expected that this little side project that is https://technically-good.ca/ would draw this much engagement - and I don't mean the quick-hit types of engagement, like likes and boosts.

I mean *real people* writing in with questions, comments, concerns. Creatives saying how an article really resonated with them, folks asking how they can help their friend group migrate to a less shitty platform, many others.

And I'm just running a tiny blog that's been up for only a few months!

Regarding Chat Control, the European Parliament's proposal from 2023 is reasonable. Instead of violating privacy and exposing people, including minors, to security risks, the proposal is about:

Automatic crawling of online content;
Obligation for service providers to remove illegal content, including CSAM;
More powers for law enforcement agencies to report illegal materials to providers.

Security by design should remain top priority as victims of abuse need secure and private means of communications to talk, seek help and advice.

Breaking encryption or mass scanning of private communications is not the solution.

I've heard a lot about blue sky I haven't tried to go in yet until a couple, make that 40 minutes ago

• the perspective I'm talking about is the captcha
• it's unbelievable that it will be easier for a large language model to create an account on Blue Sky while someone belongs to the species of homo sapiens cannot get past their stupid captcha
• they have a technical problem where the results do not reach the server
• absolutely true blue sky is bad
• it's horrific the technology fails when you create a new account from this part of the planet

OMG Social media improvement idea!
Option to publish individual posts to be, allowing no further edits except emphasis.

Like, you can change the formatting forever onward to be:
"make this bit bold", "italicise the other thing", or "strike-through that", "underline whatever".
Maybe add a redaction feature, in case you want to keep a post up, but remove sensitive info you left in.
Or redact any hacked or bot posts, leaving that portion up as, like, "hey this is when stuff got annoying".
