Summer is undaunted by the cold and wet weather. She is ready for an adventure.
She argues that the exercise is good for both of us.
She is always right.
I have a warm jacket and no excuse.
Our favorite trail looks too busy so we move on to Humboldt Bay. Not our favorite but not anyone else's either so we are able to enjoy the solitude we crave.
I asked Summer to stay out of the muddy shore of the bay and she obliged.
She still got wet but only from the few mud puddles that weren't bad smelly water.
We had fun and minimal clean up required.
A win win for both of us.
#Summer #DogsOfMastodon
Feeling pretty smart for pushing so hard to get the outside chores done yesterday because today is soggy. We got just enough drizzle to soak everything and there is a cold breeze.
A good day for inside shenanigans.
Summer keeps her pal entertained by sharing her newest toy.
We all slept well and are enjoying a rest from crisis mode.
Today will end up being a house cleaning and laundry day with a bonus baking side quest.
Good morning, Mastodon.
#Summer #DogsOfMastodon
Early morning strategy session.
These two think they have all the answers.
They wish someone would listen.
I wish they were really influencing the balance of power.
I think I better head to the kitchen and influence the breakfast prep.
Good morning, Mastodon.
#Summer #DogsOfMastodon
A quick run down the hill for a walk. We left our blue sky sunny hillside and drove right into a wall of white fog.
Hitting the trail was like walking into a cloud.
No scenic photos but I took lots of happy dog scenes.
#Summer #DogsOfMastodon
@murena @heiseonline cool to hear that #murena #eos plans to deploy #android16 in #summer to #fairphone6
Summer is visably relieved that her pal is feeling more like himself. She brought her teddy bear to share before she settled down to service as a foot stool.
Summer is happy when her pal is happy and vice versa.
#Summer #DogsOfMastodon
Summer let me know that she was not happy that I left my post for thirty minutes.
She has opinions for sure.
Now that I'm home I seem to be forgiven.
Whew!

Posting our morning adventure from start to finish before I go outside to clean the underside of the lawnmower to be ready to mow our side of the road.
Early morning walks are the best.
Nature is waking up and paying us no matter.
There are few things more enjoyable to me than these walks with Summer.
The cold was tolerable without the insistence of the wind. Summer appeared to be steam powered as her breath visably swirled around her.
There are both Summer and no Summer photos.
Thanks for coming along.
#Summer #DogsOfMastodon
The sandscape is different every time we go to this beach. This time I brought a bandanna to mark the trail back. You can see how that worked out for us.
Summer waited until we were headed back before she ran down the beach to retrieve my stick and bandanna trail marker. She is hopelessly incapable of leaving anything behind.
#Summer #DogsOfMastodon
Summer says that this chair is her favorite. She can keep a close eye on her pal. It is warm, cozy and just the right size.
I spent some of my evening sitting in our chair but put my embroidery project away and got up when it was time to take care of late night chores.
She follows along with me just enough to verify that I'm done sitting for the evening. Ready to curl up in a warm spot to get started on her before bed nap she hurries before the seat gets cold.
I do believe that all of these little routines make both Summer and my husband healthier and happier. We find comfort in the sameness of our quiet lives with our cherished loved ones and shared recliners.
She is adorable pretty much all the time.
#Summer #DogsOfMastodon
Better late than not at all.
Summer still needed her hour long run.
No good trail options so late in the day.
I headed for Humboldt Bay even though the tide was out and the mud was abundant.
The good thing about Summer is that she washes up just like new.
She doesn't mind playing in the mud one bit.
I managed to stay on my feet.
No slip sliding away.
Tomorrow I will get up extra early so we can secure a walk on a more convenient trail.
#Summer #DogsOfMastodon
Summer is so, so happy to have her pal back home where he belongs.
#Summer #DogsOfMastodon
I told Summer that we could go for a walk but would need to hurry along at a pretty good clip because I want to have time to protest early afternoon.
We headed for a spot where we can have beach access by using the trail reserved for horseback riders. It isn't posted for snowy plover nesting so she can frolic off leash. It is a longer hike but we are motivated. There were no horseback riders or I would have leashed her.
Summer laughed at me when I had to get up some steam to make a run to crest a steep incline. I made it, barely.
We had fun. She is definitely feeling healthy again.
Thank goodness.
#Summer #DogsOfMastodon
Summer had so much fun in the sun at the beach today. I hope the photos convey the joy.
#Summer #DogsOfMastodon
Summer and I are sad that our beach walks are coming to an end soon. She can only run on this beach, off leash, through Saturday. From March 1 to September 15 it is off limits because of Snowy Plover nesting dog restrictions.
Because, we are rule followers, for the most part, we will comply and leave the beach for the birds.
So everyday until then we are going to get our fill of beach walks and gather some premium sticks.
Today she was beyond excited to share an adventure with me.
It feels pretty good that she still gets excited to be in my company.
This photo was right after she hopped out of the car.
#Summer #DogsOfMastodon
One last Summer beach photo. She loves seeing her name in the sand.
I'm not sure how she could be any happier.
#Summer #DogsOfMastodon
We are getting my husband all gussied up for his dental procedure this morning. This means that he has been able to be well enough for the three appointments in a row that will finish up today. This is an accomplishment that we will celebrate with his favorite giant raised donuts and hot chocolate.
Summer understands that getting a morning walk will have to take a back burner so we are compensating with some indoor fun in the sun that is streaming through the windows.
Good morning, Mastodon.
#Summer #DogsOfMastodon
Uh oh.
I'm in the dog house with Summer.
She likes routine and consistency.
This morning I ran right downstairs without going back to cuddle her on the bed.
What we have done every morning until today.
There she was still upstairs.
The guilt is real.
I will try to make it up to her.
Good morning, Mastodon.
#Summer #DogsOfMastodon
The second round of this morning's adventure photos. Summer decided that there might be something interesting under all that sand.
She also found the perfect driftwood table for a quick snack and sip.
#Summer #DogsOfMastodon
Rainy day beach adventure for Summer. We almost had to turn around but the roads were still barely passable.
Lucky us.
#Summer #DogsOfMastodon
In retirement I've learned what it really means to multi task, how to roll with the punches and to enjoy every positive happening because I don't know what the next hour or day might bring.
Maintaining our quality of life depends on each of us showing up for each other. Not because we have to but because want to coexist in a supportive and loving home.
Summer celebrates every step forward and provides warm comfort for every step back.
This evening we are grappling with a new approach to my husband's antibiotic strategy. We are taking a break and moving to other supplements that hopefully will keep bacteria at bay. The doctor clearly put some thought into the best next steps.
We are hoping for a successful outcome.
Summer is bringing her happy dog distraction routine to her pal.
If pure joy cured everything we would be a miracle.
#Summer #DogsOfMastodon
We all slept in this morning. My reminder to serve up the first medicine of the day woke us up.
A hearty breakfast was next. Summer wolfed her roast pork, kibble and sweet potatoes.
Her pal's blood pressure was looking good so we bundled him up in his recliner with a hot chocolate while we headed out for a short adventure.
The rain is supposed to start in about two hours so this was our window of opportunity.
I told Summer hurry, hurry, rush, rush so we can spend more time frolicking on the beach.
You are invited.
Come on along.
The photos are in the order they were snapped.
#Summer #DogsOfMastodon
Last photo is of Summer when my alarm went off and I told her we had to head for the car. More adventuring tomorrow I hope.
#Summer #DogsOfMastodon
Summer brings the orange ball to her pal for some early morning recliner games.
The weather might keep us inside most of today.
Baking is on the agenda.
Time to replenish the freezer with goodies.
Summer says her favorite is banana bread.
I told her that I would keep that in mind.
It was so windy on our hill last night I was nervous about possible fence or other damage. We were lucky and all is well.
Hope all is good with our Mastodon friends, too.
Summer says good morning, Mastodon.
#Summer #DogsOfMastodon
I expected fewer people would be on the trails today with the wild windy conditions.
I was wrong. The parking lot at our favorite trail was full.
I was hesitant to get sand in our eyes at the beach but Summer convinced me to go anyway.
She said she would lead so I said what could possibly go wrong.
The wind tried to steal my Moon Mammoth cap twice but Summer saved the day and the hat.
We walked for over an hour with no sand in the eye mishaps.
Summer doesn't ever say told ya so and I appreciate that about her.
My husband got to visit with the grandkids and Summer got her work out.
Life is good on this blustery day.
#Summer #DogsOfMastodon
Poor Summer is keeping her pal's feet warm. She is a faithful foot warmer.
This job is complicated by her lack of control over what is playing on the television. I think she is really tired of classic westerns. As am I.
She registers her opinion.
Good morning, Mastodon.
#Summer #DogsOfMastodon
I sat down to take care of a dreaded annual chore.
Time to get ready to file our tax return.
Thank goodness I found every document I need.
Less paper than years past but still a box full.
Summer wasn't interested in helping but she did keep me warm. She is a most efficient heat source.
We lead simple lives on paper.
#Summer
Today is definitely getting things done day.
We ran down the hill to fill the free pantry and mail postcards. Unfortunately a storm cell found us with a soaking shower of rain while all around us was dry. Summer said do you think we did something wrong. I said no and that I was sure that all of our bad luck is used up for the rest of today.
With that thought in mind we started out for a walk.
The birds and frogs were abundant on the trail. The egrets weren't bothered by Summer so she left them alone too. We even walked up on a blue heron that lifted into the air not ten feet from us.
So much wonderousness to take in. Worth the trouble of a cold damp adventure.
We feel so fortunate to experience these things on the regular.
Time to get dry, warm and cozy for the afternoon.
#Summer #DogsOfMastodon
Summer says what's that in my eyes???
I said it is sunshine.
Not much of that bright stuff around lately but we are out of the dark clouds for a moment.
The cold outside is extra cold with a wind that is nippy even for Summer and her fur coat.
We are starting out our day feeling perky.
Good sleep last night.
Summer's pal is faring well thanks to the newest antibiotic and I plan to finish the last 138 political postcards today.
Cinnamon chip and maple bars will get baked to share while we check on neighbors. I expect that next door they can use some help stacking firewood closer to their door and bring in their garbage bin.
Positive things happening on our hill today because we will make them happen.
Good morning, Mastodon.
#Summer #DogsOfMastodon
Too much inside time.
I took a break from writing postcards to Michigan voters to play with Summer.
She always manages a win.
I end up toyless at the bottom of the stairs.
#Summer #DogsOfMastodon
Summer doesn't ask for much.
She is happier and more relaxed on the days that she gets to run for an hour though.
Yesterday that didn't happen.
So this morning I bundled up to brave the cold and rain. Her comfort is as important as mine I reckon.
Her pal, at the last minute, asked if he could go along. So we make accommodations.
We drove the four wheel drive vehicle to shorten the hike and took the sandy vehicle access to the beach.
We joked about not melting in a little rain no matter how sweet we are.
It worked out we didn't melt.
I am determined to let go of my instinct to decide what is best for my husband. He is the best judge of how to use his energy. I can made it easier though and I do my best.
An epic adventure was had by all.
Especially Summer and her pal.
Time to dry out and get warm.
#Summer #DogsOfMastodon
Summer says she is ready to help me tackle the next chore on our list.
Long list today.
Wild thunder and lightning night last night kept us awake so everyone is tired. Even Summer who doesn't like loud noises.
I think I have everything stocked up so we can stay home through the worst of this weather event.
Glad I waited to start my spring planting.

Laundry is the never ending chore at our house.
Today I stripped the beds and threw open the windows. Fresh air is healthy even on a cold winter day.
I got to the laundry room and realized I was short a pillowcase.
Summer is very smart but I wondered if I asked her to go get the pillowcase what might happen? Would she understand?
She knew exactly what I wanted. Most likely she understands that it didn't belong on the floor but regardless I was impressed and she got a treat.
We are rocking and rolling through our chores on this Saturday.
Summer said why don't we have the day off for the holiday? I told her that Valentine's Day isn't that kind of holiday.
#Summer #DogsOfMastodon
This is from a little sensor I have on the window next to my sliding glass door that goes into my garden. I didn’t put the outdoor blind down far enough today & while that temp shown isn’t the actual temperature outside which is 30c - it’s what is radiated onto my window by the setting sun & so heats up the inside of my unit. Yech!
This is why I really need more trees & green stuff outside. Roll on #Autumn - I’m so over #Summer.
The last of today's adventure photos. Summer and her pal pushing the envelope.
Summer is fearless and will traverse any and all terrain.
Her pal shouldn't encourage her but he does.
These two are a handful when they are together.
#Summer #DogsOfMastodon
This morning is gray with heavy overcast.
Damp cold.
So Summer and her pal cooked up a plan. They decided that the two of them would go on an adventure together.
I said whoa.
Not sure about the advisability of a sick human and a rambunctious dog heading off to who knows where to do who knows what??
Could something go wrong?
You bet.
We agreed that a chaperone would be a good addition. That's how I ended up being the voice of reason on a cold beach morning.
You never know how many adventures are still in our future so I won't be the reason we miss one.
A good time was had by all. This photo is Summer reacting to her pal telling her the same corny joke for the gazillionth time.
Good morning, Mastodon.
#Summer #DogsOfMastodon
Summer got to show off for her pal. She took him to her favorite spot to jump on this beach.
#Summer #DogsOfMastodon
Summer has her hands full this morning.
She says that it would be helpful if both of her old, slightly under the weather, humans would hang out in the same room. She likes to monitor our activities without having to run from room to room. We will do our best.
Two of the grandkids will be showing up later so she has something to look forward to.
I'd better find some energy to bake treats. The cookie jar is empty. The cookie jar is never empty.
A cup of coffee will get me moving.
Good morning, Mastodon.

We didn't have much time so we hurried along on the trail. Headed towards the ocean but turned around before we would have climbed the dunes. Maybe next time.
We saw a juvenile eagle, deer and clouds of tiny pesky gnats. We could have done without the clouds of bugs but once we passed by the ponds they lost interest in us.
Summer found the giant mud puddles irresistible and I let her have her fun. She washes up easily.
#Summer #DogsOfMastodon
Summer really likes jumping the driftwood logs at the beach. I like whatever she likes so I threw the stick as many times as she returned it to me.
#Summer #DogsOfMastodon
Sometimes I wonder if Summer gets tired of listening to me talk. She never complains so I'll keep telling her all my super secret thoughts. She is discreet and supportive. What more could I want from my daily walking companion?
Today we agreed that we are tired of the overused word resilient. We don't feel resilient.
We are survivors who know how to maximize our resources and find contentment with far less than most humans think they need to be happy.
The road we were driving to the beach is hazardous. Pot holes full of water are hard to judge. It's best to navigate around them all. These days our very existence is like driving this road.
While we carefully avoided the pitfalls we sang.
I introduced Summer to the old Three Dog Night song Joy to the World. We sang because we really find joy in each other's company.
#Summer #DogsOfMastodon
I do think that Summer wants something from me.
Good morning, Mastodon.
#Summer #DogsOfMastodon
Poor Summer.
She can't figure out where her lamb went.
It was right here a minute ago???
He likes to keep her guessing.
These two keep me entertained.
For sure.
#Summer #DogsOfMastodon
We are finally getting some rain.
This is a good thing.
I am very lucky that at one time we traveled and recreated in all kinds of weather because I still have my waterproof gear and lots of warm layers.
I will never hike or ski like I used to but I can walk Summer in comfort.
We bundled up my husband with hot chocolate and snacks at arms reach, a warm blanket and a heater remote so he could cozy up to watch the Olympics while we got in a quick walk.
Summer was excited to get some fresh air even if she ends up a soggy doggy.
#Summer #DogsOfMastodon
Summer is hiding again.
She blends right in.
Almost invisible.
What will bring her out in the open?
Maybe the aroma of breakfast.
#Summer #DogsOfMastodon
Summer was sneaking under the table to see if she could talk me into a walk before the rain comes.
It is so hard to say no to her when she asks nicely.
She always asks nicely.
Time to bundle up.
#Summer #DogsOfMastodon
Summer is giving her pal the paw. She is holding him close while I rustle up some breakfast. In charge of good feels she keeps him safe and warm. I just have to keep her fed and exercised.
We take care of each other.
Good morning, Mastodon.
#Summer #DogsOfMastodon
Summer and I escaped the construction noise by running down the hill to the beach. We always bring home all the garbage we can carry.
Today Summer found some pieces she was particularly proud of. I picked up mostly empty bottles and spent shotgun shells. Summer finds more colorful pieces.
Even our small efforts make a difference.
#Summer #DogsOfMastodon
Our seismic retrofit contractors are back at work. Summer is anxious about what they might be doing to her house. You can tell by her very concerned look.
On arrival they thanked me again for yesterday's cookies. They also confessed that they took the box of cookies door to door to introduce themselves to their new neighbors. They moved to a new town just a few days ago. They said the neighbors loved the cookies and helped make a good impression.
It just shows how a small kindness can generate a ripple effect.
Summer and I had to hang out in the back fields this morning where these random stands of daffodils are popping up all over.
I might have to take her for a walk and away from the loud drill noises.
Good morning, Mastodon.

I didn't really think about how noisy a seismic retrofit might be.
Summer is not impressed.
I decided we should get out of Dodge for a bit.
Off to the beach we went.
Here comes too many Summer photos.
#Summer #DogsOfMastodon
Ah, must be summer. Lots of lizards in the backyard missing their tails, which is typical when the striped racer snakes have emerged. #snek #summer #climatediary
Summer says the first step when cleaning the garage is to pack up the cardboard to recycle. This is also her favorite task.
We also gathered up spent batteries, light bulbs and some ewaste.
We never ever run out of chores.
Summer is an enthusiastic recycler.
#Summer #DogsOfMastodon
Summer relaxes as we slowly start our day. No hurry to get moving as our seismic retrofit contractor has postponed his work start until tomorrow. They will make our foundation safer for when the big one comes. It turned out that our house was already braced but needs the bolt part to be more secure. I've ridden out many earthquakes in this house and feel very safe now but completing the retrofit will reduce our insurance rates. Worth it.
Today's plan now includes a garage cleanup, a haircut for me and dedogging the car seats.
Another beautiful sunny day.
Good morning, Mastodon.
#Summer #DogsOfMastodon
I am thankful.
This Mastodon community has been ever so kind to us.
You have encouraged, uplifted and inspired for years now.
Giving my embroidery projects value by actually accepting a physical gift from a virtual friend.
It makes me happy everytime I go to the post office because I am sharing something I crafted with someone who is no longer a stranger but a distant friend.
People say that kindness is in short supply but you simply need to know where to look.
I'm not finding goodness in humans by looking at traditional places like churches and civic clubs but in this loosely connected but fiercely wonderful assembly of kind souls.
I appreciate every supportive thought, prayer and good vibe. We are helping each other through the worst of times and it all matters.
The picture is Summer in the driver's seat for today's walk. She really wants to drive. I tell her maybe someday.
#Summer #DogsOfMastodon
Summer and her pal share the chair before we get a move on for the day.
Good morning, Mastodon.
#Summer #DogsOfMastodon
Summer didn't get out for a run yesterday and today wasn't looking promising.
Until
We decided to run down to the beach quick like.
Sadly everyone else had the same idea so it was grand central with cars, humans, dogs and horses going every which way.
I decided to head for a turnout less traveled. I should have assumed that there was a reason we were the only car. The trail from our parking spot to the beach looked rough but doable. About halfway to the beach it disappeared entirely.
We were sort of lost. I knew we were getting close to the ocean so I had Summer push ahead.
I was hoping to find an easier trail back.
We did find another trail.
Not so easy though.
I asked Summer to find the car so she navigated the dunes by following deer trails.
What an adventure.
Few photos because I was consentrating on staying upright and not breaking any bones.
We made it.
Summer deserved her treat.
#Summer #DogsOfMastodon
Guess who scored a new toy today?
She isn't ready to share yet.
#Summer #DogsOfMastodon
Summer decided that we both needed a nap. She is sound asleep on top of my feet.
An extra forty five minutes of shut eye did me a world of good.
Now I have to wake her up or dinner will be late.
She is snoring so sweetly.
#Summer #DogsOfMastodon
I have to share.
Summer and her pal are being adorable.
They are almost inseparable.
Summer does let me drag her down the hill for a walk, now and then, but she misses him the whole time.
They were all happy this morning because I promised that they won't ever have to watch the Melania movie.
We are changing antibiotics again this morning and hope the gazillionth time is the charm.
Good morning, Mastodon.
#Summer #DogsOfMastodon
Summer is a very smart dog.
I pulled her leash out of our backpack and instead of putting it away when I took it off her collar I tied it to the shoulder strap.
It untied itself somewhere along the way and dropped. I didn't even know until I realized Summer was bringing it along.
She is such a good girl.
Lucky for us because we need to leash her one more time before we got back to the car.
#Summer #DogsOfMastodon
More Summer adventure photos.
This trail has been off limits to us since November. Taken over by waterfowl hunters for months. Now that the season has ended we can start early morning walks here again.
#Summer #DogsOfMastodon
We made it to the trail.
The only car in sight.
Whole trail to ourselves.
Random good fortune.
We'll take it.
We did need our leash twice but both of our people and pet encounters were great. Summer made a new friend that looked just like the dog in the movie Annie.
Summer basked in some good dog compliments from strangers and were on our way again.
#Summer #DogsOfMastodon
Summer knew a fun time was right around the corner. As soon as I fill her fancy water bottle the wiggles begin. She runs outside to potty before she stations herself at the car door.
We talked all the way to the trail.
She was curious why she keeps hearing about bucket lists. I sighed because I've gotten into trouble with family. Because of an injury one family member is in a panic about unrealized progress on her list. I get it but have found it hard to sympathize adequately.
The thing is that I have had many opportunities in my life. Many of the best experiences wouldn't have been on a bucket list. I honestly feel like such a list is for people born to more privilege than I.
Just my opinion.
I suggested that this might work out all right in the end because nothing is really lost. She can look beyond the confines of her list and she will recover.
Hopefully she forgives my temerity but she asked and I answered.
Summer says she still loves me.
#Summer #DogsOfMastodon
More Summer adventure photos.
She is a happy dog.
The beach was beautiful today.

The last of this morning's photos.
We spend the beginning of our day together with few distractions. We listen to each other, encourage and try to set the mood to carry us through the day.
Summer is in charge of entertainment and keeping feet warm. She is very good at both of those things.
Time to get busy though and finish up chores before tomorrow's forecast of rain.
I will be baking cookies to take to the local VA clinic. The staff who serve my husband most likely need a gesture of support in this difficult time.
#Summer #DogsOfMastodon
Summer is nowhere to be found.
She is hiding.
I don't have the heart to tell her it's not working.
#Summer #DogsOfMastodon
Summer and I got her pal outside this afternoon to soak up some fresh air. She even shared her stick with him.
#Summer #DogsOfMastodon
Summer just wants you to know she's here if you need a friend. She's sending out calming vibes straight through until bed time.
Sweet warm and soft she is staying close to both of us tonight.
#Summer #DogsOfMastodon
It was time for a walk. The sun broke through the clouds. It was a sign.
Summer said opportunity was knocking.
Since she is usually right we filled the water bottle, grabbed the backpack and away we went.
The ocean was brilliant turquoise and blue which is unusual and wouldn't be lasting very long.
With the timer set for an hour we set off down the beach.
So many sticks
Summer was a happy dog.
#Summer #DogsOfMastodon
We are amazing. No doubt about it.
Chores are getting done lickety split like.
The entire house is vacuumed and I do believe it is a miracle that Summer isn't bald.
Together Summer and I inventoried ostomy supplies and repacked our go bag supply with new fresh stuff. She hauls off the empty boxes. The first thing I would grab in a major emergency this bag would keep my husband in business for at least a month.
We also unpacked shipping boxes and rotated the daily use supplies in our bins.
Prepared two boxes to mail to my sister. I don't have an embarrassing volume of clothing anymore because I've shipped it all north. She supplements her income selling my old work clothes but after two years of shipping I am finally running out.
I think it is time for baking muffins.
Summer is ready for her mandatory break time.
#Summer
I finally connected with my husband's infectious disease doctor at Stanford. He said that we are dealing with two different bacteria and one of them is resistant to the antibiotic we are using.
A week of a much stronger medicine hopefully will get us back to where we need to be.
I confessed that I have been doing the best I can with the medicines we had on hand. It turned out that we had done all the right things.
I was relieved to hear him say that.
To celebrate our good fortune we dropped my husband off to get a haircut from my daughter while Summer and I went to frolic on the beach.
#Summer #DogsOfMastodon
Sometimes there is a surprise in the dog food delivery box.
Summer says this is her first pet tiger.
She is a happy dog.
#Summer #DogsOfMastodon
Summer climbed right up to give me a pep talk. She says that vacuuming and cleaning the garage will be fun. She says to look on the bright side. I asked her to clarify that bright side declaration. She says she is the bright side because she will help.
She is the purveyor of happiness around here.
We wondered if we get our backsides in motion and get the chores done if we might have time to bake muffins for the neighbors and the free pantry.
We will see. Now we're motivated.
Good morning, Mastodon.
#Summer #DogsOfMastodon
Summer and I needed a minute so we headed to the beach. We only had forty five minutes but we decided to make the best of it on an overcast gray day. The ocean was wild, noisy and just what we needed.
#Summer #DogsOfMastodon
Summer is on the job twenty four seven.
She is keeping close track of her pal even though he has been improving today.
She brought him one slipper and waits with the second one until he is ready.
She is a sweetheart.
#Summer #DogsOfMastodon
We are enjoying this morning moment. We are all feeling perky and happy to be together.
We decided to save the worries for tomorrow. Not that there isn't plenty to worry about but a rest is in order. I even took off my Fitbit in favor of a free day.
Warm apple turnovers for breakfast with rich dark coffee.
We reminded each other of challenging times past and our good fortune in surviving and beating all the odds. We are so lucky and we are thankful.
Summer says she loves all of us too.
Good morning, Mastodon.

Summer is such an enthusiastic helper. We sorted laundry together. I had her pile up all of the washcloths.
After I brought the baskets downstairs to the laundry room I asked her to go back for the washcloths.
Sure enough she brought them to the laundry room one at a time.
She earned a treat.

Our neighbors have company.
They have lined the property line between us with RV's full of their relatives. Not to mention the six pickups and other vehicles.
Summer is not amused.
On top of that I left her home while I went to fill the free pantry with food. I had too much to carry to add a leash to the mix.
She has no poker face.

Summer deserved some time to run. She has been the most caring caregiver my husband could wish for these past few days.
Even though it was getting late in the afternoon we started an adventure. Just the two of us trying to beat the fog. About halfway back to our car the fog caught us.
It's a good thing that Summer always knows the way home.

Last night was long. It's clear that the preventative antibiotics my husband is taking aren't preventing anymore. He was sick with a high fever all night.
I had a doctor appointment that I couldn't miss this morning so one of the grandkids came out so I could get away.
I didn't get everything I wanted from my appointment but we agreed that I am slowly healing from my tooth infection. All of my health indicators are looking up.
While I had a back up caregiver I got Summer out for a good run. The beach was beautiful.
Now it's time to turn the raspberries I defrosted into jam while I wait to hear what new ideas the doctor has for my husband.

Dinner was leftovers.
Now we can all relax.
Summer is taking the caregiver shift.
She brings her pal his slippers.
Puts her head in his hand to score some ear scritches.
Offers a paw shake after the slipper delivery.
Finally settled at his feet to help keep them warm.
I so appreciate when she takes over and gives me time to do my thing.
I know he is good paws.

Summer says she needs to give me some warm cuddles before I venture out to find the blood mobile and donate.
I did explain that I might not feel like going on an epic walk this afternoon but we will see.
She says not to worry that she will keep my chair warm until I get home.
She is so sweet. I can't even tell you how much her cuddles lift my spirits and bring me joy.
Good morning, Mastodon.

I got back home to a waiting Summer.
She was ready to embark on the promised adventure.
For the first time in months we were able to slog through the mud to her swimming spot. I think that I ended up muddier than she did.
I threw the stick in the water until she decided she was done.
We are both worn out but in a good way.

Summer looks consternated.
She really doesn't like surprises especially new things popping up willy nilly on her front acre.
So she barked until I came to look.
She sat right down so we could devise a plan.
The plan was simple. It doesn't take up much space although for a mushroom it seems rather large.
We agreed to let it be.
The mushroom agreed to stay right there and mind it's own bees wax.
Summer was satisfied that we aren't in immediate danger and paid it no more attention.
One more crises resolved.
I wish they were all so easy.

Summer says she feels better today.
She waits for breakfast while keeping her pal warm.
Today will have to be a day of catch up on deferred housework for me. Laundry, floors, bathrooms and yard cleanup projects are all calling my name.
The three of us spent part of our morning coffee conversation trying to figure out how we can maximize our efforts to resist. We have ideas and are determined to do our part.
For today we will share our food. Bake scones to give as gifts and offer to shop for our neighbor who only has two chemo sessions left.
I keep thinking about yesterday's protest when a young person in a loud truck yelled at me to go back to the old folks home. I am pretty sure he never had a grandma like me or he wouldn't be so hateful. He only increased my resolve.
Good morning, Mastodon.

I took some photos of Summer before her trip to the vet.
I love how the early morning light brings out the caramel color of her coat.
She is a cutie.

It could be such a beautiful world out there if people could just treat each other decently.

Share your favorite things. Share beauty. Share love. It's the only way I know to fight back against the ugliness of the world.

Summer has been patiently waiting for an adventure.
Today is her day.
I promised and delivered.

I was getting ready to go out to protest in the cold wind. When I got out my warmest hat Summer decided that she needed it more than I did. She loves my fox hat.
The thing is that she doesn't want to wear it. She just wants to cuddle with it.
I managed to talk her into letting me take it with me as long as I promised to bring it back.
Looking forward to the day when protesting isn't so necessary.

Summer is happy to be home and thrilled to be outside in the cold with me so I can take my mask off to drink coffee.
She told me all about her travels including her secret to getting a minute away from the other dogs. She says she just jumps into the bed of the truck and none of the other dogs could jump that high. I did tell her that she might encounter other jumping dogs in the future but I was glad she had an escape.
She did really like Bart the pointer. They are officially friends.
The morning is cold and wet after the overnight rain. She and her pal aren't showing any signs of getting ill.
So far so good. I'm not going to stop masking until I am absolutely certain we are past the incubation period for pesky viruses.
Time to go back inside and get her pal ready for his doctor visit.
Good morning, Mastodon.

Very strange last few days. When I'm sick it feels like our little world goes a little sideways.
Yesterday, My husband and Summer went off to spend a couple of days with two friends. These three have been close friends for seventy years even going all the way through school together.
Now they all have significant health issues and want to hang out and reminice while they are all still able.
Everyone promised to quarantine before so they wouldn't have to mask.
Now, I understand that we define quarantine differently and that the friends have just stayed away from sick people.
Ugh.
I will have to mask at home for the next week.
Summer says none of this is her fault but she got to play with two friendly dogs so she's happy.
I hope, hope, hope that it all works out and no one gets sick including me.
Good morning, Mastodon.

That’s the same place I’ve posted yesterday, but during the summer.
Different colours, different mood.
Nature is magic.
This could be a 6 months, 6 years or 60 years old photo.
Nature never gets old.
