The trams and vehicles date this picture to sometime in the early or mid 1930's. The tram system was swept away from this part of north London when trolleybuses were introduced around 1938. The tram on the far left of the picture is bound for Chalk Farm, where it will terminate. The tram just seen on the far right will probably follow the tracks round the curve into Camden Road. This is Royal College Street, north of Camden Road with a trolleybus travelling to Parliament Hill Fields having just passed under the North London Line bridges. Amazingly, Castles pie and mash shop is still doing business 50 years after the top photo, by Michael Dryhurst, was taken. This road was two-way then, but with cars parked more or less permanently either side of the road, the change to one-way traffic was inevitable.
