This is the kind of highly ornamental cottage that Eureka has in abundance. The ornamental details are Americanized "Eastlake" and saw lots of use in Eureka on homes both large and small. More unusual is the vacant house next door which features nearly identical ornamentation so both were probably built by the same builder and at the same time.
