In EAT PRAY LOVE, Rome began the nourishing of Liz Gilbert’s soul. She learned to enjoy simple pleasures of eating with friends, and the joy of “dolce far niente” - the sweetness of doing nothing. Julia Roberts, who plays Liz, said, “All the scenes were very fun to shoot, speaking in Italian at a thousand miles a minute with lots of pasta and wine around.” Accomplished food stylist Susan Spungen was on hand to provide all delicacies seen on film. Always loved that scene in Eat Pray Love where she makes herself a lovely meal in her Roman apartment. Recreated it using sautéed prosciutto instead of smoked salmon, kept the bread out (totally by accident), and added a whole lot more olives. Dolce far niente, muah!
