Megan Dahlman on Instagram: "💥The “Hip Hinge”💥 I put the Hip Hinge in the category of MANDATORY EXERCISES FOR EVERYONE OVER 40. Seriously. 👉 Knowing how to properly fold/hinge at your hips and NOT round over at your low back to bend over will really save your bacon anytime you go to pick something up. Plus, practicing this move over and over again will strengthen your hips/glutes and your core. Making you even more resilient for many years to come. It’s a win-win! 🙌   ➡️ Watch out though!!! When you first practice the hip hinge, your back may want to round over since that could be your default movement pattern (without realizing it). 😬 By using a dowel of some sort like this, it will guide you into proper technique and start training those hips the right way. 👍   Grab a curtain r Hip Hinge Exercise, Hinge Exercises, Mobility Stretching, Exercise Legs, Beginner Exercise, Glute Strengthening, Hip Hinge, Movement Pattern, Hip Stretch

Dr. Leada, PT, DPT, SCS | Sports Physical Therapist on Instagram: "TRAIN YOUR HIP HINGE⁣👇🏼 ⁣ The HIP HINGE is a critical component to movement sequencing in forward bending. An efficient hinge allows the hip rotators and hamstrings to lengthen under contraction, doing the majority of the work, to allow the trunk to move towards the floor.⁣ ⁣ After a back injury, this motion can be inhibited due to fear, weakness, pain, or other reasons. It also be impacted after something like a hamstring strain/tendinopathy, hip labrum tears/glute pain, and even knee surgery (ACL, meniscus/replacement.) ⁣ ⛓️ Pairing a hip hinge pattern with load (gravity to weights) can really maximize glute/hamstring strength. Think: deadlifts, good mornings, and the forward lean needed in an athletic single leg stance Hip Hinge Workout, Hip Hinge, Forward Bend, Back Injury, Knee Surgery, Physical Therapist, Hinges, Trunk, Physics

👋 Ok, you’ve heard me say it before - The “Hip Hinge” may be THE MOST IMPORTANT movement to master as you get older - ESPECIALLY IF YOU HAVE OSTEOPENIA OR OSTEOPOROSIS!!!

Having this movement pattern ingrained in your body will prevent untold back issues, hip issues, and even serious injuries throughout the rest of your life! This move also spares any fragile lumbar vertebrae from excessive load.

Tips to remember:

✅ Knees should be slightly bent - never locked out.

✅ Think about folding at the hip crease and then straightening back out by squeezing your glutes hard
