As I took a few images, I caught the trombonist playing in front of the mural of John Mitchell Jr., newspaper editor and activist in the Black community. The title is from the name of the store in the window below. Artist Statement: "It’s the ripple not the sea, it’s the pebble not the stream, not the garden but the stone”. These words by composer Stephen Sondheim serve as an inspiration and challenge for me to look closely, to find and capture the fragment that expresses the whole.
