For this project my goal was to create an Uruk-Hai to explore the realm of Gondor. He needed to feel like a part of the world and affected by the environment and the harsh life of a brutal warrior of Middle-Earth. I wanted to capture the material contrast of the blackened armor, heavy leather, rough skin and long flowing hair. "-Whom do you serve? -Sarumaaan!" - I made this illustration following Marcus Whinney's course, by first sculpting the model in ZBrush, rendering it in different passes and finally compiling everything, editing and painting over in Photoshop. The process was very fun, though the rendering tools in ZBrush are pretty clunky to work with as compared to dedicated 3D rendering packages.
