I'm Calvin Freitas. I engineer and deliver product experiences from architecture to implementation to production. My work emphasizes websites and front-end systems. I build with AI‑native engineering practices. My experience as an individual contributor, consultant, and engineering manager helps me connect technical decisions to measurable outcomes for clients and global audiences.
Current work
I build websites and services and advise teams on using AI to accelerate delivery and reduce operational overhead. At Home Instead (Honor Care), I built and delivered a Next.js and Sanity site on Vercel and a Python service to keep critical business data in sync. That work improved lead conversion and operational metrics.
My work over the past twenty years has taught me how to turn complex technical constraints into fast, reliable experiences that serve the needs of customers and the business. I specialize in rapid delivery of product experiences for e-commerce and fintech.
Today, through Swarzy, I help startups and established organizations plan, build, migrate, and optimize their websites.
I also care about the less visible parts of delivery: CI/CD, observability, alerting, security controls, scaling, and cost.
Experience
My background is rooted in front-end systems and commerce. I have led engineering for an e-commerce website and apps, including work across product detail, cart, checkout, payments, and wallet capabilities.
For ~9 years at Amazon, I built UI frameworks and customer- and seller-facing features for global audiences. In my final role there, I was the lead front-end engineer for the Amazon Product Detail Page. I also helped create Amazon's Front-End Engineer role and shipped experiments with significant revenue and performance impact.
Tools and practice
I work primarily with TypeScript, JavaScript, React, Next.js, Bun, Node.js, HTML, and CSS. I built this website with Ruby on Rails. I use Python and Rust for data science, ML, and AI projects. I can use Kotlin, Java, and .NET when the need arises. I use AI agents to move faster while keeping human review, operational safety, and business results in the loop.
