Miele has been family-owned since its founding in 1899 by Carl Miele and Reinhard Zinkann. The company was started in Germany, but it is now a multinational corporation with branches in more than 60 countries. As of 2017, the company has over 26,000 employees worldwide.
The company's motto is "Keine Macht den Dreckigen" which means "No power to the dirty", and was created by Carl Miele as he believed that dishwashers would never be popular if they required manual washing of dishes before loading them into the machine.
