Distributed optical fiber sensor is a unique technology that offers unprecedented advantages and performance especially in those experimental fields where the environmental harshness limits the applicability of standard sensors. By measuring the faint light backscattered by the fiber in response to a well-tailored probing signal, distributed sensors allow mapping the variation of physical parameters along the fiber path with high spatial resolution. / Bozzini, D (CERN) ; Bajko, M (CERN) ; Ballarino, A (CERN) ; Blanchard, S (CERN) ; Gascon, J (CERN) ; Heredia, N (CERN) ; Onufrena, A (CERN) ; Perin, A (CERN) ; Rodriguez Mateos, F (CERN) ; Yammine, S (CERN) et al.
The HL-LHC IT String, a test facility for the major components of the HL-LHC Inner Triplet, is currently in its construction and commissioning phases in a surface building at CERN. The primary motivation of the HL-LHC IT String is to study and validate the collective behaviour of its different subsystems which include mainly: the inner triplet superconducting magnets and their correctors, a novel superconducting link, the cryogenics infrastructure for the cooling and quench recovery, the powering and quench protection systems, and the remote alignment system. Project Quality Management for the HL-LHC IT String
/ Garcia, Nicolas Heredia (CERN) ; Bajko, Marta (CERN) ; Blanchard, Sebastien (CERN) ; Bozzini, Davide (CERN) ; Brüning, Oliver (CERN) ; Gavela, Hector Garcia (CERN) ; Humbria, Victor Guillen (CERN) ; Kosmicki, Antoine (CERN) ; Fernandez, Estrella Vergara (CERN) ; Yammine, Samer (CERN) et al.
This article explores the project management quality standards required for leading complex technical projects involving state-of-the art superconducting technologies, diverse stakeholders and extensive installation, commissioning, and quality assurance/ control activities. Specifically, it presents the project management framework – including processes and best practices – implemented for the High-Luminosity Large Hadron Collider (HL-LHC) Inner Triplet (IT) String test stand at CERN. Transforming Concept into Reality: Overcoming Challenges in the HL-LHC IT String Test Stand Implementation
/ Bajko, M (CERN) ; Blanchard, S (CERN) ; Bozzini, D (CERN) ; Bruning, O (CERN) ; Garcia, N Heredia (CERN) ; Zerlauth, M (CERN) ; Yammine, S (CERN)
The objective of the High-Luminosity Large Hadron Collider (HL-LHC) Inner Triplet (IT) String is to faithfully represent and validate, within a surface building at CERN, the installation and collective behavior of all major systems in the new HL-LHC IT zone. These systems encompass superconducting magnets, protection, cryogenics for the superconducting magnets and the superconducting link, powering, vacuum, alignment, interconnections between magnets, and the superconducting link itself. Hardware Commissioning of the HL-LHC Inner Triplet String Facility at CERN: Individual System and Short Circuit Tests
/ Yammine, Samer (CERN) ; Antoine, Alain (CERN) ; Onufrena, Aleksandra (CERN) ; Perin, Antonio (CERN) ; Panev, Bozhidar Ivanov (CERN) ; Bozzini, Davide (CERN) ; Coulot, Emilien (CERN) ; Thiesen, Hugues (CERN) ; Zerlauth, Markus (CERN) ; Bajko, Marta (CERN) et al.
The goal of the High Luminosity-Large Hadron Collider (HL-LHC) Inner Triplet (IT) String test, is to validate the assembly and connection procedures and tools required for its construction, to assess the collective behavior of the superconducting magnet chain in conditions as close as possible to those of their operation in the HL-LHC and to provide a training opportunity for the equipment teams for their work in the LHC tunnel. The IT String includes the systems required for operation at nominal conditions, such as the cryogenics, powering and quench protection systems. [...]

This contribution describes the experimental program already undergoing and to be completed on the High Luminosity Large Hadron Collider (HL-LHC) Inner Triplet (IT) String, an important intermediate milestone of the HL-LHC project at CERN. First, it describes the magnet circuits of the HL-LHC IT String. [...]

The HL-LHC IT STRING, an integrated test stand for the major components of the HL-LHC Inner Triplet (IT) zone, is in its construction phase in a surface building at CERN. The main motivation is to study and validate the collective behavior of the different systems: magnets, circuit protection, cryogenics for magnets and superconducting link, magnet powering, vacuum, alignment, and interconnections between magnets and superconducting link. Construction and Test of the Enhanced Racetrack Model Coil, First CERN R&D; Magnet for the FCC

Racetrack model coils (RMC) have been built at CERN during the past decade, as an R&D; tool to qualify conductors and technologies developed for high field superconducting accelerator magnets (Perez
et al.
, 2016). RMC, assembled in a dipole magnet configuration, proved to be an efficient instrument reducing cost and feed-back time while developing new magnets. [...]
