Yesterday we opened the doors of the Roche Genentech Innovation Center Boston. At Harvard's Enterprise Research Campus in Allston, 95,000 square feet of new research space is now home to something we've wanted to build for a long time: an end-to-end R&D environment where discovery research, clinical development, AI and data science sit side by side. The focus is to have end-to-end R&D capabilities in cardiovascular, renal and metabolic diseases. These conditions are deeply interconnected in patients, yet science has traditionally studied them separately. Bringing these teams under one roof is our attempt to change that and to pursue more holistic approaches to treatment. A few things that made it meaningful: 🔬 Our first research presence on the U.S. East Coast, complementing our established teams in South San Francisco and Basel. 🤖 AI and machine learning applied to clinical development — including trial design — so we can make better-informed decisions and reach patients faster. 🤝 Capacity for up to 500 people, and a 10-year commitment to the Boston/Cambridge scientific community. Thank you to the state and city leaders, academic partners and colleagues who joined us for the ribbon-cutting — and to everyone across Massachusetts' remarkable life sciences ecosystem who made this possible. The building is open. Now the real work begins.

When we pick up food at the supermarket, we rarely think about everything that happened before it reached the shelf. From safety checks to quality standards, countless decisions happen behind the scenes to protect consumers and shape what we buy. The same is true for medicines and health technologies. The policies behind healthcare don't just affect health systems, they influence the care people can access, the innovations that reach patients and the health of our communities.

Today, September 17, marks World Patient Safety Day! 🧡 Under this year’s theme, "Safe care for life!", we’re honoring the everyday resilience of patients and caregivers managing long-term health journeys. Noncommunicable diseases cause nearly 74% of deaths worldwide, representing millions of real lives depending on safe, daily care over a lifetime. The truth is, patient safety isn't just something we work on, it’s something we live. Behind every job title, we are daughters, sons, partners, and parents supporting the people we love through complex health journeys. That’s why ensuring safe care isn't just what we do, it’s deeply personal to every one of us. Watch the video and discover why patient safety is a journey we take together—every day, every dose, every step. #WPSD

Cancer research can be a great challenge. Minute biological clues allow researchers to detect and track cancer, but high accuracy and throughput is required to overcome challenges of sample degradation and genomic interference, which can be challenging with existing methods. Sequencing by expansion (SBX) offers a new approach. By converting DNA information into “expanded” synthetic surrogate molecules for high-throughput sequencing, SBX can help researchers better detect tiny traces of circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA). Discover how molecular signals can be transformed into genomic insights: https://lnkd.in/dwQTwJZS (Roche's sequencing technology is currently for research use only.) #Genomics #CancerResearch #NGS #MakeSpaceWithSBX #RocheSBX

Despite significant advances in oncology, unmet needs persist in lymphoma care, and many patients are still considered incurable. For those navigating relapse and treatment resistance, the burden extends far beyond clinical outcomes to everyday quality-of-life challenges: • Access to new treatments • Long treatment waiting times • Transport to specialized treatment centres • The daily psychological toll of disease management Addressing these friction points requires advancing science that directly improves the patient experience at every stage. Through ongoing research and innovation, our commitment remains clear: turning breakthrough science into meaningful advances that elevate standards of care and enable patients to live life beyond their disease. #Lymphoma #BloodAwarenessMonth #HealthcareInnovation #OncologyCare

"I think predictive technology gives us a lot more than just a safe sleep and better predictions. It also means more quality of life and not using this energy for the diabetes, but actually using it for things that matter to us." — Michelle Schmidt, diabetes advocate (CEO, Diability GmbH) In a recent survey, 71% of respondents say they often feel tired because of their diabetes, fueled by the constant threat of nighttime lows.* A study showed that night low prediction technology reduced the odds of severe nighttime lows by 31%.* Moving from reactive monitoring to proactive management.
