What can I say, I'm still feeling rather Ghastly... I was totally inspired by Natural Born Quilter's Nightshade Emperor's Wheel quilt and since my Ghastlies stash was still strewn all over my studio I just kept on going. For the construction I adapted this NY Beauty Circle of Flying Geese pattern by Better off Thread. I had a couple of options for adding the center section. My initial thought was to turn under the edges of the flying geese and applique my ring to the center panel. I also…

a woman holding up a quilt made with mickey mouses

Hi Everyone, Sorry it's been such a long time since I have blogged...again. I just cannot seem to keep up these days. Work is still very overwhelming. We have already started back to school (just finished our first week), and the semester has taken off like a rocket. This semester...

an image of a pattern that looks like it is made up of many different colors

Remember the Alexander Henry "The Ghastlies" fabric that I wrote about in the My First Quilt post? I bought 8 pieces of 5 different patterns from the line and have started my quilt! I only bought 1 yard of each pattern so I barely have enough to make the quilt. This lead me to be very nervous about cutting it all out, especially the 4 main pieces (above fabric in white, gray, pink and green). I wanted to be able to get the best 9 squares out of each yard possible, but I wasn't sure how to go…

an image of a quilt with many different pictures on it

Have you seen the Alexander Henry Halloween fabric? This series is called "The Ghastlies". It's funny. And dark. It reminds me a lot of Edward Gorey's art. The problem is, I can't find it for sale anywhere. There are a...

a black and green quilt hanging from a tree

I've always had friends and relatives who were considered by others to be different or creepy. It's kind of strange, but a few of my classmates in school disappeared after calling me "WICKED." Here I am with my Uncle Frank..he was a great guy! Having to go to my job every day means that I have to dress and look a little different. I love when the work day ends or it's a weekend so I can just be ME. To get ready for this WICKEDLY fun blog hop, I took some time off from getting tattooed and…

a quilted wall hanging with coffee cups and cats on it's sides, along with a poem written in cursive writing

This tutorial was created for Madame Samm's Sew We Quilt blog and I know of no other way to get this tutorial on my own blog other than re-posting it here. So, please excuse my duplication of this post if you've already seen it. A Ghastlie Tea Party! Oh please, do come in... The tea cups are paper pieced. I fussy cut the images and fused them to the background fabric using Wonder Under. The images are not appliqued after the paper piecing is done...they were fused to the cup background…

a woman holding up an orange and black quilt with images of witches all over it

Isn't this just the best Halloween fabric ever?! It's from Alexander Henry and we had a bolt at the West Center store for a couple of weeks and just couldn't decide what to do with it... I mean we LOVED it, but what to do with it that would be PERFECT??? Then Lori Lang started playing with it and made this super neat throw for the season... It's from a pattern called Bouncing Borders, from Bean Counter Quilts. Here's a picture of the pattern... It's a fun, easy pattern that works with either…

a bed with a black and white quilt on it

I just got done with another wonderful weekend at CJ's Quilt Retreats. I was able to finish three quilt tops, almost a fourth (just have a little bit of sashing left), and start one additional project. So much fun! Love quilt retreats! Here is what very well be may be my favorite quilt of all time...not just that I've done, but ever in the history of quilts. Just love this! I have been admiring The Ghastlies by Alexander Henry for a couple years now, but I already had a Halloween quilt in…
